Thomas Wolfgang Barth was born in Vienna, Austria on January 31, 1965. His musical life was born in 1971 when, at the age of 6 he discovered the piano.
Barth studied the great classical composers. He investigated theory, composition and improvisation. At 16, Thomas discovered contemporary jazz, pop, R&B and more importantly he examined the genesis of a lifetime love for exploring new areas.
Thomas's search for new challenges took him to Denmark and the Branjberg Hojskole where he participated in clinics with Danish and American musicians including Lan Doky, Adam Nussbaum and Bob Rockwell. Study trips to New York, Boston and LA are a vital part of this period.
Upon returning to Austria in '86, Thomas won the "Popodrome", a nationwide Austrian band contest with his band . In '87 Thomas continued his studies in master classes with Herbie Hancock at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and in '93 with Joe Zawinul ( Weather Report, Zawinul Syndicate) in Vienna.
Besides music, Thomas studied Psychology and later received a degree in Advertising and Marketing at the University of Economics and Business Administration in Vienna, where new interests in Science, management, education and information technologies are discovered.
This leads to music and multimedia productions for clients including Kelloggs, IBM and Unilever. In 1993 Thomas writes the music for "Magic Mozart Machine", a musical about the reincarnation of genius, as well as scoring and producing the suite "Red Velvet", an acclaimed soundtrack for an exhibition of Irena Rosc's Art in Vienna. 1998 brought a big change for Thomas with his move to America.
In New York he records his first album as a leader, "Seven Worlds", joins the music production company "Stray Dog Music" and works on the development of new and established artists including P.M Dawn, Brand Nubian and Deborah Cox.
With the "Thomas Barth Group" he performs in and around New York City.
In January 99 he becomes a new member of "Electric Diamond", an electronic chamber music ensemble and records the album "Music From Another Time."
In May 99 he writes and records "Music for the Spheres", a soundtrack inspired by the Art of Deborah Koye.Contact
