A Colorado based americana band, led by a 34 year veteran of the music industry, and featuring many different "friends" who sit in as the occasion arises.
Band/artist history
A consummate music industry professional, it would require a book to describe Chris involvement with music over the past thirty plus years. Radio programmer, musician, songwriter, sound man, music critic / editorialist, talent buyer / promoter / club manager and more are all things that fit on his resume.
While playing in various bands, or as a "solo" act throughout his career, Chris has shared the stage with national acts like the Marshall Tucker Band, Edgar Winter, Firefall, Black Oak Arkansas, Dave Mason, Guy Clark, and more. His last full band project, Alien Cowboy (1992 - 2000), was a fixture on the "classic southern rock" circuit in the Denver region, culminating in a twelve show -- five week tour of England in 2000. It was during that tour that Chris solidified his desire to re-approach his music and focus on a sound closer to his heart, Americana country.
Today, Chris music reflects all the diverse elements of his lifelong appreciation for Americana music. He incorporates country, folk, jazz, blues, rhythm & blues, southern rock, and bluegrass onto a palate of songs written by himself as well as others, including Chris Knight, Charlie Robison, Bruce Robison, Townes Van Zandt, Robbie Robertson, Toy Caldwell, Scott Mitchell (Last Train Home) and more. He is as likely to cover a song recorded by Travis Tritt or Randy Travis as he is to pick on an old Pure Prairie League, New Riders of the Purple Sage or Charlie Daniels song as inclined to pay homage to Willie Nelson as he is to Lyle Lovett or Dave Alvin as in love with the music of James McMurtry, Tom Petty or John Mellencamp as he is Johnny Cash or Merle Haggard.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Yes, we play live. In fact, I'm more comfortable playing live than recording in the studio, so to this date all the "recordings" we have are done from shows ... I like it that way. One particularly special moment was the night the songs that appear here were recorded. The supporting players are young guys who stepped up the pump after only two rehearsals ... I was pleased with the outcome.
Your musical influences
Country Rock, southern rock, blues, folk, jazz, bluegrass, outlaw country, cowpunk, alternative country, americana. Gram Parsons, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Asleep at the Wheel, Poco, the Marshall Tucker Band, The Allman Brothers Band, Lone Justice (Maria McKee), X, Roseanne Cash, Dave Alvin, Dwight Yoakam, Steve Earle, Randy Travis, Uncle Tupelo, Whiskey Town, Sun Volt, Ryan Adams, Chris Knight, Marty Stuart, Travis Tritt, Kentucky Headhunters, Lucinda Williams, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and many many more.
Anything else?
Today's country radio is an insult to the great roots music of our time.
