FritZ played guitar with Shane MacGowan's first band - The Nips, between 1979 and 1980 This is FritZ's first solo project with the release of his first single on Attack & Release records in February 2009
Band/artist history
FritZ played guitar with Shane MacGowan's first band - The Nips, between 1979 and 1980 He featured on the bands most well known single, "Gabrielle" and also on the Polydor session, produced by Paul Weller during which 4 songs were recorded. "Happy Song" and "Nobody to Love" from this session were later released as a single. There are several live recordings from this period on which FritZ played. The 101 club and Only The End of The Beginning feature "Ghost Town" which was co-written by Fritz (G. Douglas) and Shane MacGowan. During the 1980's FritZ worked as a free lance double bass player on the London Improvised Music Scene. He performed with Pete Nu, Mark Saunders and Paul Rodgers, and later joined Mervyn Africas band, "Kapp Finale" He played throughout the 90's with Mervyn and later moved north to Northumberland where he set up a Recording and Guitar Tuition Studio. In May 2008 The Nipple Erectors played a reunion gig at London's 100 club. Three original members were present: Shane MacGowan, Shanne Bradley and FritZ. FritZ started work on a new album in the late summer of 2008 which is due for release on Attack and Release Records in the early half of 2009 The first single from the album will be released in January 2009 "I'll Remember September" is a punchy power pop / punk number reminiscent of the style in which Ghost Town was played back in 1979. The B side is another classic punk song called "The Girl With Green Eyes" which again catches the spirit of the late 70's in a manner that so many new "punk" bands just cant capture. With 30 years of experience FritZ's raunchy guitar style and inspired song writing, is something not to be missed!
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Yes I recently did 2 live gigs with The Nipple Erectors. My new band will be on the road in the new year 2009
Your musical influences
My biggest influences have been Shanne Bradley and Shane MacGowan who I first met and played with in 1979. I was 18 when I joined The Nips and they were a couple of years older, so I really looked up to them. I learnt a lot in a short time.
What equipment do you use?
I use a Gibson les Paul standard (2006) Gibson SG jnr with P90 Fender telecaster custom Westfield bass guitar (85) yamaha FG-300A acoustic Vox AC30
