Motel168 wants to live her life with dignity, producing and writing music that might inspire and touch people. “I’m not saying that Phil (her writing partner and co-producer on this debut album) and I are better than the urban artists out here every on the radio etc," says Motel168 aka Pegy, "but I do think there could be other things to say, other stories to tell. Other idea’s set to drive urban music forward and away from more 80’s inspired dance music?
I want to help cultivate a life with dignity. I want our music to remind people that life is a fine vessel in which to pour good things. Of course you won’t always be thanked but we have to try. We figure life is great and the only thing that ever tarnishes it for us is the people that don’t understand this. They spend their time being greedy, mean-spirited and vain.
I guess that’s what our debut album Tall Stories Big Lives’ lyrically is all about. It’s full of stories about people living in situations that aren’t really of their making, People like us, trying to just get things done without a million quid without any real visible means of help just a few friends and some hope. We just thought there needed to be a little musical reminder that we do have it pretty good really, and all good things do come if you believe they do.
"There are plenty of people here who achieve what they want for themselves - even when the odds are stacked against them - with dignity, flair and humility. It can’t just be about making lots of money because there are plenty of rich people who are just as unhappy. It has to be about appreciating the little things that money can’t buy and trying to be true to your creative self. That’s what we wanted to draw people's attention to. Good music plus good effort might amount to something special who knows this is just Phil and I dipping our toes in the water we’ll have to wait and see if anyone hears and agrees with us?”
