I have played live in downtown Lawrence and at several coffee shops before. Live performances are not at all typical, though.

Jens Lekman, Radiohead, Ramones, Talking Heads, The Smiths, REM, Bright Eyes, Leonard Cohen, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Brian Eno, Velvet Underground/Lou Reed, and numerous others which may or may not represent my actual style.
