Imani Kairee whose real name is Kairee Imani, was immersed in HipHop Culture at a young age. She is the eldest daughter of the late Indie Music Artist, DJ, Activist and Hipstep Massive creator Tc Izlam.
She started her music career in the underground music circuit in Connecticut, a neighboring state to New York that has a huge underground Rap following dating back to the late 70s.
Imani Kairee always knew her destiny would be in the spotlight early on. At the age of three, while holding a microphone in her hand, she professed that she was going to be a wapper. No one knew then that she would end up fulfilling that self-proclaimed prophecy.
Not old enough to frequent clubs and venues, Imani Kairee was allowed in the establishments anyways but always made an exit immediately after her performance. She always made her presence known to the DJs, hosts, and other talent, before she hit the floor. By giving respect to the DJs, cheering and encouraging the other performers. She was constantly asked if she was going to sing, and her nonchalant response was always, Nah, I rap. After listening to Imani Kairee on stage , the audience was always impressed and a bit puzzled. Her style was a little quirky, but her music always had great lyrical content and really hot music tracks. As one of the only female performers at that time, Imani Kairee eventually won the male artists over and became the little sister on the scene.
At 17, fresh from graduation out of high school, she secured an Indie music contract with Thelonious Records. Her first single, followed by a video, was titled, Only One did not see fruition. Imani Kairee did not give up and went back to the creative drawing board. She was one of a few female artists in the circuit who did not use curse words at that time. This set her apart from most of the female artists in her era who succumbed to the pressures of over-sexualizing their music to get on.
Imani Kairee recently released a clothing and accessory line under the Hipstep Brand.
Imani Kairee the one to look for in 2019, continues to be a trendsetter in her own right.
