Band/artist history
In October of 1998 Among the Sick was formed out of the merging of two local bands, Sidirial and Cynical. Even though with there band just breaking up Sick (drums) and Ken (Vocals) never gave up on wanting to be the most brutal band out of N.Y., and with this they found Dan (Bass) and James (Guitar) formally of Cynical. Originally, Dan had taken up Keyboard duties while Chris played the bass, and former lead guitarist Dom became the rhythm section. This would be short lived, as both Chris and Dom were asked to leave due to personal and professional reasons. It was at this time that Among the Sick started to take form. With in 2 short months, the quartet had written 5 brutally violent songs, starting to gain much hype in the local scene. To make their material even more hard hitting, ex-Cynical vocalist Sever was asked to join the band as its second set of lungs. Now a 5-piece, Among the Sick was ready to unleash their raw metal sound to the public. After a successful first show at a local venue, Among the Sick amazingly grabbed a slot to open for Psychopathic Recoding artists Zug Izland. This started it all, with months of successful shows with bands such as Morgion, Orodruin, and Deadwait to follow, and the production of their first demo had finally been completed. Everything was going great, even a possible record signing was being discussed. To top it off, they were asked to play with Dimmu Borgir at the legendary Lamour. But, just when it was getting oh so good, everything began to crash down. In late October of 2003, for various personnel reasons, James decided that he no longer wanted to be a part of Among the Sick. At this point, talks of being signed ceased, recording of the full length CD was halted, and worst of all, they were left without the most integral part of their sound close to a month until the Dimmu Borgir show. A massive search to fill his position began right away. At first, it looked like no one could satisfy their musical needs, until SICK (Drums) stumbled upon their saving grace. Fellow classmate Eric was recommended by some as being the great guitarist, and when he was asked to join, he gladly accepted. Shockingly, instead of simply learning the old songs, the newly revived ATS wrote 5 entirely new songs just in time for the Dimmu show in which they blew everyone away. After the show ATS decided they needed a rhythm section to fill out the massacre of brutality, Eric suggested his friend and former band mate from the band (Empirical Theory) to join the SICKNESS. Today, rhythm guitarist Harley has officially joined the band, giving them the ultimate metal sound. What does the future hold for A.T.S.? Wouldnt you like to know? Just as long as the Sickness is kept alive, the metal world will never be the same.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Of course we play live! and we have a hell of a time doing so. Lamours in Brooklyn is one of our favorite places. We've played on the Dooomination Tour with groups from Europe, we've played onlyside Dimmu Borgir, Children of Bodom, Hypocrisy, and Nevermore, and we were on the bill with Dying Fetus until Lamours was shut down. Look at our shows section and at our website, we have shows all the time. Join our mailing list if you really want to be up to date with what's happening in the world of AMong the Sick.
