24 year old sydney designer/musician starts a hyrbid organic + electronic career. collaborates with producers, dj’s, wrtiers & animators to develope a unique music career. dan segal has been described as an eclectic + prolific songwriter and a dynamic, outgoing designer. his musical influences stem from prince, daft punk + gotye to crowded house, bjork and incubus. an “old school” trained musician + composer, segal has blended the rudiments of traditional song writing with the flare of modern electonica, dance + rock. during live performance, with the help of his band ‘the pocket’, his sound transpires into a cocktail of primal beats, warm funky guitars, rich vocal melodies, deep moving bass lines + raw, honest lyrics. a true product of the sydney hybrid scene, dan segal and the pocket keep their songs beautifully simple + emotionally raw. their melodies are infectious + their rhythm is primal.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
We play live as much as possible around Sydney, we'd love to extend our network to greater NSW and Japan.
Your musical influences
My passion really comes from good hooks and good grooves. This can run through any style of contemporary music, and I enjoy most of it. I could name 1000 names of who I could listen to forever, but I'll give you a blend of what I sound like. Prince, Gotye, Ben Lee, Daft Punk and Incubus.
What equipment do you use?
Always start with a drum loop and bass guitar, or if I'm travelling I start with the acoustic. To record, I cant go passed the Mbox, Protools, Micro-Korg and lots of guitars.
Anything else?
I will never stop writing songs, whether they are heard or not. I'm sending them out to the universe. Dig it
