These Boys from Melbourne’s east have a serious case of the blues and that’s just the way they like it. Formed in the back room of a condemned brewery, taking nothing seriously - except for the music.
THIRD ARM rekindles the long lost (and sadly missed) tradition of the Rockin Pub Band.
A Four piece,THIRD ARM believe in good grooves, strong melodies and well crafted songs.Influenced by a variety of different musical genres, THIRD ARM combine the grooves of the 60’s R&B era mixed with the colour and drive of the Guitar rock of the late 60’s/70’s.As a result this mix is an infectious and catchy style of music guaranteed to get the head rocking and the feet moving.
THIRD ARM play the hell out of their instruments creating an energy few can replicate and this makes for a brilliant Sonic and Visual experience long remembered after the ringing in the ears has subsided.Band/artist history
The idea of ThirdArm was born during a gym class in Croydon 1984. Beginning as an argument between two of the founding members, Tim & D, over which band was better, Twisted Sister (Tim) or Iron Maiden (D), this issue has not been resolved.
Vowing to start a band together for the sole reason of blowing the other of the stage thus began an Arms race of sorts. A race to hone ones chops and riffs into finely tuned weapons of mass durbation. The ensuing struggle included infamous battles such as 1989’s ‘I discovered Hendrix first’ and the mother of all 1990’s ‘I heard SKYNYRD before you’. This issue has not been resolved.
Over the coming years, Rock’n’roll, took a back seat to the sex and drugs side of the story with our two heroes attempting to outdo each other with magnificent feats of bravadery and derring-do. Incidences such as Tim’s 12 longnecks and a hotdog (warning: chew your food) and D’s infamous melting footy shorts escapade of 88. (warning: don’t pass out to close to the fire).
Unable to scratch themselves the soundtrack for this tumultuous time was provided by luminaries such as ACDC Rose Tattoo Chisel Angels and from across the seas The Allman Bros, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Cream, Doors, ZZ top and Guns and Roses just to name a few.
Guitar influences included Stevie Eric Billy Buddy Duane & Angus.
As the fog cleared from their dazed countenances, overseas trips and various soirées (swaarays it’s French for yoghurt) in other bands.
The Big Night Bottle band was formed in 1994.
Thrown into the mix at this stage was Mark’fingers’Picken or ‘chook’ as he is better known. With an inherent sense of time and feel that sly and the family stone would die for, he was not immediately famous for his ability to play the hell out of the bass guitar. It was more for the fact he gave Tim & D a run for their money in the ‘I’m pissder than you’ stakes with such episodes as ‘Would you like fries with that’ (warning: Don’t try to help serve at macca’s if your pissed) and ‘It’s just me and the Bears and the Rolling Stones’ (warning: Having a roundabout erected in one’s name is not an honour and sorry about your house mister).
Passionate about his music and Bundy, Chook took apart his first bass using a brick wall and a screw driver to ‘try and find out why the fucker wouldn’t work’ and after finding the answer via the Stones, Black Crowes and a wealth of rockin blues artists put his mind and soul into searching for the perfect groove.
Steve exploded into the Band in 2000 via a healthy dose of large rock sounds including KISS, Gunners and any thing that ‘ROCKS HARD MAN’.
While stories of largess and depravity remain untold. Steve gained respect from his band mates through his mighty collection of awesome beats, porn and love of NOOD chicks(see the scrapbook)
THIRD ARM’S skins man is the perfect foil for Chook’s grooves and Tim & D’s wailings and the combination of the four creates an original and exciting style of music
2003 finds the band recording and playing in and around the Melbourne area with designs on becoming ‘THE MOST ROCKIN BAND IN MELBOURNE’
Stay tuned for more to come.
