While Luke, JT Money and Trick Daddy were putting it down for the MIA, he was playing the sidelines meticulously honing his skills for his turn to shine. As Miami hip-hop evolved from booty to thug music, there was a dire need for those outside the city limits to rep their hoods. After waiting patiently, Scotty Boi is more than ready to step into the spotlight and put Miramar on the map.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, Scotty Boi moved to South Florida at the tender age of seven. After several years of moving around various parts of the state, he settled in Miramar Fl- a historic town just North of Vice City. Unlike many other New York transplants, he considers himself a bona fide southerner. “Back in the days it wasn’t cool for a New Yorker to say he was from the bottom; you had cats moving from up north to down south in strollers, talking a bout they from New York,” declares Scotty. “Outside of New York I’ve lived in Boston, New Jersey and LA, when I got to Miami, I finally found a home.” Although he started rapping since grade school, it wasn’t till high school that his passion for hip-hop became a full time affair.
The unrelenting Scotty Boi began organizing school talent shows and promoting open mic nights at various clubs around town. Then one day, a childhood friend dared him to pick up the mic and perform. He began honing his skills from that day on, perfecting his laid back flow on Southern rhythms and hardcore Northern tracks- thus creating the Scotty Boi trademark. Once the word got out, Scotty began to turn heads locally. It was clear that the next big rap phenomenon was nestled in the backstreets of Miramar.
“Just like you have Nelly in St. Louis, Eminem in Detroit and Bone Thugs in Cleveland, the Mar (Miramar) is bubbling with talent. There’s an untapped talent pool that’s waiting to be heard. Everybody thinks it’s all about Miami, but I’m going to set it off for Miramar.” With the killer production assistance of Bless and Blizack (Suicide Kings) who have worked with such hip-hop heavyweights as Mr. Cheeks, Luke, Lil’ Kim, Keith Murray, Eight Ball & MJB, just to name a few, Scotty Boi exhibits lyrical prowess on a variety of topics ranging from autobiographical to awareness and hope.
Standing over 6 feet tall, this Haitian American MC is impossible to ignore, both physically and sonically. He received critical praise for his performance of the inspiring song “Life” at the Source Youth Foundation NAACP, showcase. Scotty Boi is not just aiming to please fans in the dirty South; he wants to rock an entire generation across the country.
