I started my musical journey as a rock guitarist and then branched into other genres as well as other instruments as I progressed. I am currently playing guitar in various musicals, bass in a hillbilly blue-grass praise band, bass and acoustic guitar in an acoutstic duet known as the "Pair O' Jacks", and have just finished up scoring a film for a small local production company.
Band/artist history
I started playing Viola as a child, then switched to guitar. I picked up bass and keys just because they were needed in one project or another, but eventually grew to love them as much as I do my primary instrument.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Every chance I get I play live, whether it be with a band, in the orchestra pit, with my guitar pickin' buddy in our acoustic duet, or just sitting around the campfire on the lake property down South with a few beers and a few good friends. I don't just like it, I need it. It's kinda' like air to me...
Your musical influences
Frank Zappa, Stanley Clark, Al DiMeola, Eric Clapton, Chick Corea, Jeff Beck, B.B King, Led Zep, Rush, Yes, Kansas, The Boston and Cinncinnati Pops, London Philharmonic, The Who, The Boss, Steppenwolf, John Williams, James Horner, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Ozric Tentacles, ZZ Top, SRV, Aerosmith, Trans Siberian Orchestra, Chip Davis... I could go on, but you probably get the idea.
What equipment do you use?
Currently I'm using amps by Peavey and Fender, guitars and basses by Fender, Epi, Yamaha, and Peavey, keyboards by whoever, and recording gear by Behringer, and Shure, and some other folks whose names I forget unless I look at the labels.
Anything else?
I once heard it said that the problem with life is that it has no sound track. I don't know about everybody else, but mine does. There's music constantly running in my head and most of the time that's really cool. There are times, however, when it can be really annoying because I can't seem to find the bloody off switch.
Oh, and for the benefit of those of you who don't know me: Handing me a guitar to check out is a bit like offering to go drinking with somebody who's a "heavy hitter". Don't do it unless you willing to be there for a while.
