Calm ambient waves of harmony mix and wash together with far off synth-bells.

Ambient

Eastern Lights is a project by Ian Williams, and (as of 2008) a solo effort. It is music based on and inspired by the nascent, early Berlin School of 1974-1977. This is not meant to be a blatant copy of, nor even a tribute to, that particular area of electronic music. It is meant to be the artistic output of a musician who has been inspired primarily by that school. For me, music is the ultimate expression of humanity. Music is the grand, the very definition of beauty in all its forms; it is the achievement totally synonymous with humanity. Every culture, every human being to exist, has had and heard music in their lives. The greatest splendor of the most shining and massive galaxy or star cannot be compared to music. Some may call this pretentious; I call it the definition of art. I believe in spreading the art of music to all who will listen, with the aim of changing a mind, inciting a daydream, or inspiring a work of art. If any of the music I create touches even one person in a significant way, I am fulfilled. There will be no artistic compromise, that is to be sure; I will spread my love of this great human achievement as far and wide as is possible in this day of information. The eternal light that shines from humanity rises like the sun in the eastern sky.
Band/artist history
I have always been fascinated with music and its relationship to people. This particular project is merely one step in the long progression of music interests and observation of the arts that has characterized my life. I literally got the idea for Eastern Lights after listening to the wonderful music of Sirk, from Norway; this was on February 10th, 2008; fairly recent history!
Have you performed in front of an audience?
One day, when I am confident in my creations and myself, I will sally out into the music world and try as hard as I can to please as many people as I can.
Your musical influences
Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, Sirk (Ambient), and Jean Michel Jarre are just some of my influences. I have been influenced by Classical, Romantic, Impressionist, Jazz, and Progressive works. It is hard to define my exact influences, as almost anything inspires me.
What equipment do you use?
Thus far I am confined to playing the 'keyboard' on my computer's keyboard, with keys such as "Z" acting as C4, ascending upwards to the G in the octave below C7. I have various small sequencer and synthesizer demos for use and recording; nothing special, yet!
