Band/artist history
Dos Negros is a project started by Kenny Merrell and Jon Knox while hanging out watching TV one day. The two musicians wanted to take a musical journey and play music that both would like to hear on the radio but not be limited by stereotypes. Ignoring making music in a cookie cutting way. The two wanted to stretch out and create something interesting. The love of drums, bass and melody inspired Ken and Jon to try and create their own sound. Each started messing around with loops and samples and multi-track programs looking for a sound. Just as the project began to gain momentum, Kenny was struck with a terminal illness. As Kenny lay in the hospital, Jon built a laptop for him to use in the hospital with some music programs loaded on it to keep Ken's spirits up and focus on living life but before the first track was completed Kenny past away. Jon was devastated. After overcoming such tragedy and grief, he decided to push himself through the healing process and began to compose and produce tracks for the project in celebration of Kenny's life. Now, Jon continues the project in Kenny's honor and he dedicates all his work to him. Dos Negros influences run deep in the experimental.
