Gospel

Anita . . . holy and jazzy . . . is an anointed and appointed urban-gospel recording artist with tunes that carry you to the feet of Jesus.
Band/artist history
A natural on the mic, this Baton Rouge, Louisiana native has invoked heart-felt applause for her transparent stage presence since the tender age of 4. Encouragement to pursue her love for writing and singing gospel music materialized as an overflow of the love she receives from Jesus Christ and her gratitude for His sacrifice for her on the cross. Before she took up singing gospel professionally, Anita was a recovering abuse victim. "I think all my painful experiences and the healing I received as a result of my relationship with Jesus Christ had a great influence on my singing. I've tried to approach singing from the mindset of an over-comer. The part of a song that stirs the soul is found in the words and the melodies behind the words and the melodies."
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I do minister live- from Baton Rouge to Minneapolis. My next tour date is January 20, 2008 at a sweet place called Belfair Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, LA. I absolutely love ministering in song. My most memorable event yet was opening for a Holy Hip Hop concert for Christopher "Play" Martin in Minneapolis, MN. It was my first time ministering nothing but worship songs and it felt so great to usher people- young and old- into thew very presence of God. It was humbling.
Your musical influences
Nichole Nordeman Yolanda Adams Lisa McClendon Laryn Hill Kirk Franklin Ayiesha Woods Karen Clark-Sheard Kiki Sheard Antwine Stanley Fred Hammond . . .must I go on?
What equipment do you use?
I personally only use my voice, but my band will consist of four-five pieces.
Anything else?
Anita's music is a beautiful representation of who she is as a daughter of God. With jazz and deeper bass strokes, she mellows out lyrics that save the sin-sick and soothe the saint. Anita's days before devotion to Christ witnessed her talents featured in hip-hop joints, R&B clubs, and jazz clubs with nationally renowned artists such as Don Diego. You'll now find her at various churches and public events joyfully and relentlessly spreading the Gospel in word, in song, and indeed. Track #3, "Bless You Father" was voted number one urban contemporary gospel song in the 2005 Gospel Music Writer Awards. Track #7, "Lowly Jesus" was voted number one traditional gospel song in the 2006 Gospel Music Writer Awards.
