So what can we tell you about FORMER CELL MATES...? Call it rawk? Call it punk? Callin' it classic rock influenced and country flavoured would be a fair call. FORMER CELL MATES have been makin' this sort of noise to various degrees of success for a few years now. Formed in 2004 by past/present members of LEATHERFACE, LOS COYOTE MEN, and THE GOLDEN VIRGINS, their first album 'Hustle' was released by 'Newest Industry Records' in 2005 and saw the band touring some of Europe, breakin' most of their gear, drinkin' all the beer and gathering comparisons from acts as diverse as Thin Lizzy, Danzig, The Replacements, and Lucero!
Band/artist history
Former cell mates are a rock band from the North East of England, featuring past and present members of Los Coyote men, Leatherface, The Golden Virgins and The Mercury League. After accidently taking a year off/ splitting up they decided to reconvene. Borrowing a second guitar player from the ranks of hardcore punk-metalers THE MERCURY LEAGUE, they've gone on to record some impressive demos as a foursome. The previous limitations of a three piece never seemed apparent until their blistering live comeback at the end of 2007. Having more room to experiment with their sound enabled them to introduce more acoustic guitars, piano and lap steel to the mix. The material on 'Lit Up Like Christmas' will be released on bespoke punk rock label Household Name Records in early 2008 which sees FORMER CELL MATES take a more 'rootsy' approach to their songwriting whilst retaining the sleazy garage-rock punch they're so proud of.
