I heard Amory Jackson Barrett perform recently. Barrett, a singer/songwriter/guitarist, is from Athens, Ga. He has written over 250 songs. He has been performing in the Southeast for almost 20 years. An outstanding and highly original signer/songwriter, Barrett’s versatile music style has been described as F.U.C.B.A.R., i.e. Folk Urban Country Blues Alternative Rock. His lyrics and playing style creates a soulful hybrid. Barrett is a compelling performer, best known for his intensely personal lyrics and an innovative approach to song. His songs, like his voice, cast a lasting spell, at times drawing the listener into a world of unquestionably heartfelt emotion. WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!!!! Marie Whitehead
Band/artist history
I've been playing my own songs for almost 20 years in back alley bars and four star restaurants... everywhere in between...
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I love to play live in Athens, Atlanta and all throughout the Southeast... I think the first time I played in front of an audience at 17 I became addicted to applause.
Your musical influences
Syd Barrett, Neil Young, Dan Fogelberg, Dylan, Kris Kristofferson, Willie, Johnny Cash and, of course, Merle.
What equipment do you use?
My electric is a 1969? Fender Jaguar played through a vintage Peavy amp that looks like an old radio... and my acoustic/electric is a 1972? Ovation Legend 1867
Anything else?
I have a friend that's a psychologist.. she says that the need for acceptance from total strangers by means of applause comes from a really dark place inside... huh?... I just like playing and writing...
