The Ballad of Nature The Ballad of Nature

Another slow, sad, reflective piano-ballad. The sound is quite haunting, actually.

Always (piano version) Always (piano version)

Someone once told me this was the ultimate love song. That's quite a compliment given it has such a naked arrangement.

Acoustic Piano

Um, it's just me, actually. I'm just a songwriter who's cut a few demo's. If you like 'em by all means drop me a line - I've got a shed-load more (fourteen by twelve)
Band/artist history
Came up with my first song when I was a boy of just 11 or 12. Not a song as such, just a melody that kind-of popped into my head. 70 years later and they're still coming ... so I've got enough for your first 22 albums by now.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
No but you could if you like any of me songs.
Your musical influences
My personal favourites tend to be the great songwriters. It doesn't seem to matter if they can sing really well or not ... it's the song and the raw emotion of the delivery that does it for me. So, Dylan (of course), Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, Kevin Coyne More recently, Ray Lamontagne, Ryan Adams, Lucinda Williams
What equipment do you use?
It's a bit annoying that I still can't play an instrument properly. I've got all this "stuff" but never get the time to learn how to use it. That said, when The Beatles used to present a new song to Sir George Martin he would ask 'em to play the tune with just one finger on the piano. Well, I've mastered that (and I can even change chord with one finger of my left hand) ... so I just press on and write the next song.
Anything else?
Special thanks to Tammy Roylance for laying down such ace vocals. In fact, get this ... on The Ballad of Nature, we had just 50 minutes to let the string musicians hear the song for the first time, decide what parts to play, rehearse it and then record it. We literally had 5 minutes of studio time left and I said "let's just try and get a take". Thank you Tammy ... you are the one-take wonder. Nice one.
