I've wanted to be a singer ever since I was 12 years old - it's always been in my blood. I participated in the choir in all throughout school, and took advantage of all the competitions. I had everything planned... then life got in the way. I had to give up my dream to tend to my family. For ten long years, I put everything on hold because I had responsibilities to tend to, and music just wouldn't fit into the scheme of things.
After the divorce, it took me a couple of years to get back on my feet. I then revisited that dream that had been on the back-burner for so many years. I hadn't performed in front of audiences for a long time, so I got my feet wet and participated in local talent competitions, with a fair amount of success.
I became a professional singer in 2005, and booked gigs at a local restaurant in Vandalia. Not having any original material, I always sang cover tunes. I also cut my first demo, entitled "Colors in Motion," in April, 2005. It was a compilation of 5 cover songs, and I used it to get the feel of recording.
2006 was the turning point for me. I began to write my own music, but I struggled so much with it, I never thought I would complete one song. With the help of a good friend, he gave me the inspiration to write from a different place, and now the music is just flowing. I have nine original songs that will be included on the new CD, which I'm hoping to release in 2010.Have you performed in front of an audience?I am currently recording music so I am not performing live at the moment, but welcome any opportunity to do so.
Your musical influences
Lately there doesn't seem to be a lot of new music that influences me. I'm old school - give me rock like Styx and REO Speedwagon, then give me power like Celine Dion and Patti LaBelle, then give me smooth like Etta James and Dionne Warwick.What equipment do you use?
