Tree Houses Daniels Wood Land, "The Tree house Guys" build the only tree houses that come with their own trees... and so much more. Located in sunny Paso Robles, California, the land of rolling hills, oak trees, cowboys, surfers and wine tasters, DWL has created niche products for children that range from imaginative tree houses to pirate ship wrecks that are so original, they could spark an architectural revolution. The standard tree house is an extremely stylized clubhouse that sits on top of a hollowed out tree stump. An assortment of slides, swings, monkey bars, climbing nets, tire swings or fireman poles can be added as upgrades. The "Scallywag Sloop" is a pirate ship version of the standard tree house. It's hard to call something standard when it's entirely unique. The aesthetic appeal that sets DWL apart from all other play set manufacturers is the exaggerated, crooked look that adds so much character, charm and originality while blurring the line between fantasy and reality. You're not likely to see these in your neighbor's back yard. Of course this raises the price tag. With the standard tree houses starting at $5650, currently most buyers are in the upper class market but there are plans to create other products that are more easily accessible to the everyday family. Custom The imagination is limitless and so too are the custom tree house designs that the clients in tandem with the creative talents at Daniels Wood Land produce. Examples include Light Houses, Giant Ship Wrecks, Haunted Mansions, Victorian Styles, Tiki Huts, Medieval Castles and Old West Forts. Characters Before building tree houses, the company's original products were the wooden chainsaw sculptures. Realistic or cartoon bears, pirates and other characters are all hand carved and painted in house. The newest method of producing characters is to carve EPS foam blocks (the same used to shape surf boards) using computer controlled milling machines. The foam is sanded smooth, sprayed with polyurea for exceptional strength and durability, and then hand painted for the desired realistic or statuesque look. Theming Business owners have had great success theming their environments thanks to Daniels Wood Land. Themes are artistically exaggerated, creating fun, unique experiences for their customers and employees to continually return. The attractions for the Big Fresno Fairgrounds in California have won consecutive awards since they've been installed. Shooting Galleries In the age of video gaming, it's nice to pay homage to the original. These shooting galleries allow the players to interact with animatronic characters (built in house) while brushing up on their target practice. History Two brothers and a best friend head up DWL which was officially formed in 1997 by Johnny Daniels. During high school, Johnny started chainsaw carving when in 1997, he decided to build a special tree house that would change his life forever. In 1999, Johnny's brother Ron Daniels finished college with a Master's degree in Mathematics. He decided to join forces with his brother in the tree house business. Today Ron is President of Daniels Wood Land, Incorporated. Finally, James Powell entered the scene after relocating from Cleveland, Ohio in 2003. A master at building and painting model railroads, he had a similar artistic style that appealed to the Daniels brothers. When the dot-com crash left James looking for a new career path, he took a chance with DWL and eventually became a full-fledged partner. Today, DWL employs teams of experts at sales, marketing, concept design, architecture, engineering, drafting, 3D modeling, web design, carpentry, sculpting, painting, crane & forklift operating, shipping and installation. DWL has shipped tree houses all over the world, including Hong Kong, Japan, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Mexico, Spain and more. Clients include celebrities such as Clint Eastwood, Vanessa Williams and professional athletes such as basketball star Jason Kidd and baseball star Roy Halladay. Daniels Wood Land has made several television appearances on the local news, the Today Show, Extreme Makeover Home Edition, HGTV and Japanese television. DWL has also contributed to the Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, the American Cancer Society, the Make a Wish Foundation, the American Red Cross and Kids Wish Network.
