Formally Militia, Acmatic consists of the MC, Kinglopo and the man on the beats, MXY. We're from Jamaica and try to bring our personal spin on music. Always trying to be original and work against the grain(eg. us not doing reggae) but still trying to make universal music that anyone can relate to. We changed our name from militia mainly because of the many references that are in other bands/groups names and we would like to come off as more unique.
Band/artist history
Kinglopo(Andrew) and MXY(Russel) were colleagues since high school, and, became friends after high school was finished when they both went to The Pre-University. Both with common interests in music and Hip-hop in general both noticed each other’s abilities in training, Russell being a beat maker and Andrew being a rapper. Both in the beginning stages of these skills slowly developed them to a point where thy though they should take their abilities seriously and put them to good use for 1, because of their frustration with the current state of Hip hop, and 2, because its something they love doing and they both believed they should be doing what they love for a living. Soon the group MILITIA was formed when they both rejoined at UTECH. Still in the development stages, Russell began making beats based on the old school style of making beats by sampling older music from the 60's, 70's and 80's. This era in hip hop was the times he loved and believed hip hop was made with quality back then, that which he is trying to emulate, of course with his own twist. Today he and Andrew have began to record music and hope to release a mixtape soon to promote their name, which is now ACMATIC due to the clichà use of the word MILITIA.
