Hip Hop General

The Ill Seer has been making noise for years both as solo emcee and as an integral part of the international UK-based hiphop collective Delegates of Culture. An energetic performer, he has shared the stage in four different countries with acclaimed artists such as Roots Manuva, Blak Twang, The Skratch Pervertz, and DJ Cash Money. The small industrial border-city of Sarnia, ON, Canada was hardly a hiphop Mecca in the late eighties. Yet Ill Seer, with the help of nearby Detroit television and MuchMusic’s “Rapcity”, discovered Public Enemy’s It Takes A Nation of Millions and was hooked on the flourishing young genre immediately. A few years later, he fronted an eclectic alternafunkpunkhiphop outfit named The Chevrons - thus beginning his musical career. Seer’s intense, hard delivery of dense, intelligent subject matter is instantly recognizable. Yet this is not simply another pseudo-intellectual spouting nonsensical jargon; having received his Master of Philosophy at the prestigious University of Cambridge, he is currently completing a PhD at the University of Toronto, all the while fullfilling his duties as Professor of Theology at Heritage College, ON. Postive reviews can be found in magazines from Exclaim to Hip Hop Connection, as well as television appearances, and invitations to present papers on freestyling to the Canadian Society for Aesthetics as well as the American Academy of Religion. Currently he is working on music with numerous artists from all over the UK, Canada, and the US, bringing spiritually enlightened lyrics to some of the most progressive and experimental beats in the underground.
