This project grew out of a 10 year break in music composition. During that time, I was composing other things, like linguistic arguments and dinner menus (both of which I continue to do)...but not notes. So, reaching back to my Green Jesus (and Pigmaster) roots, I decided to begin an experimental project that allows me the freedom to compose anything I feel like, whether or not anyone else likes it but me - The ECGreen. What I like in a composition: 1.) The freedom to choose whatever I feel like at any time, just because, 2.) Orchestral instruments used improperly, 3.) Carefully controlled and thought out dissonance, 4.) Rythmic and harmonic complexity and thier opposites, 5.) Noise and 6.) Humor.
Band/artist history
No history really. I use to be a musician in my younger days and I got interested in academics, so I stopped. 10 years or so later, computer music was at a point that I thought I might be able to do something interesting without all of the b.s. of having to hire musicians, so I began composing again. Previous projects: Green Jesus, Pigmaster, other metal bands that were really funny.
Your musical influences
Frank Zappa, Throbbing Gristle, Pierre Boulez, Stravinsky, The Grateful Dead, Phish, Erik Burke, The Bordems, Iannis Xenakis, Edgar Varese, Bjork, Godflesh, Nobuko, 10, Itta, John Cage (his music not his attitude...which is arrogant and incoherent) , anything intelligent and creative (I realize the dead may not be this...but I love it anyways 8-)). ///////////////////////////////// In addition: I love bluegrass both new and old. Also old school country and western. Oh yeah, I would say K-pop is growing on me even though it sucks. However, I doubt these are influences as of yet.
What equipment do you use?
My computer and 42 Irish Midgets.
Anything else?
If you can't laugh at it, get a life.
