After a few years of trying to find reliable musicians I decided to do everything myself. Thanks to my PC and some sound modules I was able to create all tracks and produced my first CD in 1995.
In 1997 the Spice Girls showed up and when I applied for trademark rights the PTO said we both couldn't have rights to the name because it sounds the same. We recently signed an agreement to co-exist so now I'm back.
Since I'm doing this all by myself I had to get creative so I came up with a cool photo and a fun gimmick to sell my cd...Music4makingout.
My music can best be described as:
Electronica/Trance/House
Band/artist history
Barb McFadden from Los Angeles, CA (musician, writer and producer of the Spyce CD) has always been into music. She wanted drums, but was told that girls don't play drums so she played lead guitar.
In her mid-twenties she decided to use her brain instead of brawn, so she quit pro bowling, moved to San Diego, CA, began as a starving student, taught herself how to bartend, paid her way through college by working in a high volume dance bar, and finally graduated Cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from S.D.S.U. in 1990.
After all that, she decided that she would never be happy if she didn't try to pursue at least one passion in life so in 1991, rather than going to Graduate School, she bought the drums that she had wanted for 20 years, took music theory classes, drum lessons, honed her piano and guitar skills, and with sort of a blind faith, figured somehow, some day, she would find a way to make a living doing what she loved to do.
Not yet ready to go public with her music, Barb bought a bar with a friend of hers, called it Partners and ran into financial trouble. Fortunately, she was able to sell the bar only two weeks before completely running out of money. After that nightmare she flew to Europe and traveled alone across the country.
Then she sold keyboards and computer software at Guitar Center in San Diego. Sometimes she would play her music for the guys at the store and they said that her material would be great "boink" music (you do the math).
If you think about it when you set the mood to make love you can turn on the radio, find just the right song, only to find that the next song doesn't fit the mood, or an annoying commercial or DJ ruins the moment. When you play CDs, albums, or tapes, there's always that 3 to 5 seconds of silence or dead air between songs, which can be a problem, especially if you don't want your kids, roommates, or neighbors to hear what you are doing.
While studying Biological Psychology at S.D.S.U. Barb learned that an orgasm results by receiving signals to the brain. So it stands to reason if you are making love in a room that has distracting sounds or if you are afraid that someone is going to hear you, that can prevent you from achieving big "O." Plus it's a fact that women are much more easily distracted than men.
A short time later, Barb decided that she was ready to market her music so she put her education and musical skills to work. In 1994 she used her computer to write, perform, design, and produce a compact disk. An hour of non-stop music for making out, all tracks are mixed for smooth transitions between songs, all songs are of a longer duation, and there are no distracting words that interefere with letting go.
She completed the CD in 1995, called the CD Spyce, and called herself Spyce. She distributed the CD to a few stores, designed the spyce.com website and listed the CD with IUMA (Internet Underground Music Archive), cosmicradio.com and CD Baby.com The Spyce CD has sold and continues to sell extremely well on a small scale in stores and world-wide on the Internet without advertising.
After a 20 year lay off, last year Barb started to bowl again and began to compete in the PWBA (Professional Women's Bowling Association). In June, 2002 she placed third in the Susan G. Komen Foundation Open. Then in August, 2002, she won the PWBA Regional Player's Championship at the Gold Coast Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Have you performed in front of an audience?
Don't play live because it would require too much set up. I also play lead guitar and have performed Venice beach and in a couple coffee shops.
