The West Coast is in dire need of a new talent to help re-hoist the flag of hip hop dominance. We need to declare the best hip hop has to offer comes from right here in Southern California.
Omar La'teef is just the man to do this. He is a breath of fresh "heir" that will help focus the attention of the nation on South Central Los Angeles.
His style is straight forward, honest, and loaded with clever but easy to understand metaphors. His presence on the mic is strong and concise. No obscure hidden messages here.
"I like having fun on the mic! I'm also very serious about what I'm trying to accomplish. I want MC's to feel it. I want thugs to ride to it. But most of all I want the ladies to bounce to it in the clubs."
He also provides enough real world sensibilities for those who like "swaggerific" flows and a real street mentality that never spirals out of control. His focus is quite clear. Hip hop for the streets.
"I like all kinds of hip hop. I like The Pharcyde from back in the day. I also like 50 Cent from today. I just try to put the things I like in my music. Hip hop is such a wide genre. I feel it's ok to be in the club one minute, with your girl the next, and then you can go ahead and take it to the streets. As long as it's funky, I'll bounce with it."
Omar La'teef found his desire for freestyling at an early age. When he was only 11, he found an interest in hip hop from watching the Kid'N'Play MC battle scene from the first House Party movie.
"I thought it was cool how they both took over the party and got everyone to listen to them battle each other. I saw that, and felt I could do it too. I'm sure the rest of the hip hop community is going to agree."
That was one of two movies that inspired Omar La'teef to control the mic. The other of course, is the forever legendary, LL Cool J audition scene from Krush Groove.
"That scene was so hard to me. He's like this hungry ass cat that's trying to get on, and he saw his opportunity and smothered it with heat. I feel like that all the time except I'm going to create my own opportunities. Now, it's all about your marketing and making people believe in you. A hot beat and a microphone is all I need to make you believe in Omar La'teef!"Have you performed in front of an audience?I'm trying to get a lot more active this summer.
