PHIL MURPHY Edmonton, Alberta phillmurphy@hotmail.com "Music is not only my love, but my sanity," Phil Murphy, 1992. Born in Toronto, Ontario in 1977, Phil's natural lyrical talent and musical abilities surfaced at a young age. By 1982 Phil began to experience the power music would bring into his life and the lives of others. By the age of twelve reading and writing music became his passion. Fronting a number of his own groups such as Protagy (Ontario), Non-Such (Ontario), Greenwich Meantime (Ontario), Gabriels Music Box (Alberta), and Cerveja (Alberta), nourished his origional style of writing and arranging music. In 1997 he relocated from Thunder Bay, Ontario to Edmonton, Alberta at a time when Canadian Mecca's like Toronto and Vancouver were becoming extremely over populated with musicians trying to make their mark. This relocation led him to well known Edmonton musician/producer and now friend Stew Kirkwood who engineered and co-produced Phil's first solo album, PICTURE SHOW FOR DUMMIES. Supported by family, friends and a growing number of fans he celebrated the release of this CD on August 23rd, 2006 at the Sidetrack Cafe in Edmonton. Phil's journey has been full of ups and downs but you can rest assure that before too long, we will be celebrating Canada's next homegrown musician.Have you performed in front of an audience?Opened for Sum 41 at the West Edmonton Mall Playdium in '02, recently released first solo album, "Picture Show For Dummies."
