Blind (studio version) Blind (studio version)

This is the first song I ever recorded in a real studio. It was written right after Hopping Boxcars, and it's about how we sometimes take faith too literally. My dad plays drums in this version, and a friend of ours plays stand-up bass, which adds a

Break Free Break Free

This is my newest song. It's about the difference between being free to be what we want to be and free to be what we're supposed to be.

Hopping Boxcars Hopping Boxcars

This is the third song that I've written. It's about how we often wish for everything in our lives to be perfect with no work, and how if that was so, we wouldn't be able to appreciate it as much.

Say I'm Leaving Say I'm Leaving

This was written right after I wrote Shadows. It's a first-person song about someone who's about to commit suicide, and realizes there is a better way to solve his problems.

Shadows Shadows

This is the first song with lyrics I ever wrote. It was inspired by Fahrenheit 451, and it's about the same general thing.

Acoustic Rock

Hey, I'm Drew Miller. I'm 13, and I've been playing guitar since I was in the 3rd grade. I started writing songs in 6th grade, and now I'm in 8th. I listen to John Mayer, Dave Matthews Band, David Gray, Nickel Creek, Cold War Kids, John Butler Trio, and Jeff Buckley to name a few. I like to think about lots of stuff, and usually it ends up spilling out onto paper as song lyrics. And I think about good quality stuff, to assure you. My melodies are catchy but not too over the top happy or anything. I try to keep a good balance. Please listen and feel free to download some of the songs to your iTunes or whatever. It will please me if you do.
Band/artist history
I took guitar lesssons from my elementary school music teacher for 3 years. There, I learned just simple chords like 1, 4, 5. After that, I took lessons from a teacher who was more advanced and taught me scales and several little soloing tricks and stuff. That teacher left, which eventually lead me to this college student from Romania who is an amazing classical guitarist, who's teaching me more for my right hand, more about fast picking and theory for interesting chord progressions. He is extremely helpful. I've improved a ton since he started teaching me.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I love to play live. It's very fun. I play at my school mostly, but I've been looking for other cafe type places to play too. I really enjoy it a whole lot.
Your musical influences
I've gone through my Dave Matthews Band phase, but I promise I don't steal too much from him. I also really love John Mayer's stuff, especially Continuum. David Gray is also one of my favorites. He is an amazing songwriter. Others are John Butler Trio, Nickel Creek, Jeff Buckley, Cold War Kids, Elvis Perkins, Andrew Bird, The Decemberists, Chris Whitley, and I could go on and on. Well, I guess I will: Jason Mraz, Coldplay, Jimi Hendrix, U2, Robert Randolph, Gov't Mule, Derek Webb, Sufjan Stevens, The Killers, The Beatles, Kelly Joe Phelps.
What equipment do you use?
I have an acoustic Alvarez Artist Series Ad60sc, my electric is an Ibanez Artcore Af75d, I use dunlop picks and Elixir, Martin and whatever other strings sound good. Elixir is my favorite though.
Anything else?
Hope you enjoy my stuff!
