Brain Damage Brain Damage

the midnight garden the midnight garden
This is Grim and I sharing some of the highs and lows of life.
This isn't the sort of thing where I am going to toot my own horn. I'm not going to tell you how great I am, or anything like that. Everything is individual in the world of art. You either feel it or you don't. I don't want to be pretentious and give myself more credit than I deserve. I think that anyone who reads this should listen to the music and if you feel it, beautiful. If you don't, there is something out there that you will. Search for it, cause these days, how likely is it to find you?
Band/artist history
I began writing about five or six years ago. Sitting and trying to challenge myself, trying to occupy my mind. I combined that with frequent ciphers with a few influential people which led me to further develop and individual style. All this time, listening and trying to learn new things from all the music I was hearing.
As time went on, I became more and more confident in my abilities. This led me to compete in battles, start writing songs, and step onstage on different occasions. Truly I lacked direction, but I simply had a passion for it.
About a year or so ago, a difficult situation in my life turned around. I'm not going to go into detail here, but I needed a positive focus more than ever. I had been making beats, writing and recording but was never satisfied with the results. Learning to Fly pt. 1 is the first song that I created that I kept.
It became the jumping off point for the writing and recording of a collection of songs that would become "Will Rap for Fun". Looking back, I am not as confident with this album as I was initially. It is a little juvenile, and definitely not as polished as it should be.
I still do learning to fly just about everytime I perform, and I'm going to bring back the discovery channel and maybe another one of those songs.
In the fall of last year I record an album called Inspired by... No one has this one, and no one will. Well someone does, but no one else will I don't think. A few of those songs were put together on what is called "the free album".
In between I've won competitions, lost competitions, seen friends come, and then called friends come and go. I've had the chance to know some incredible people through music. I am thankful for every experience that I've had. Some seemed good and some seemed not so good at the time. Each one has been a step on the road, and a lesson in the education.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I have played live. A few times actually. I enjoy live work more than studio work really. I think it is the thought that I can put everything I've got into performing each song once, and into making the performance as a whole an energetic experience. In the studio I find I am frustrated with the repetition and I truly feel that the music is less impacting when repeated again and again.
Your musical influences
I am influenced by all kinds of music. I am influenced more in my writing by people I encounter than anything. I would have to say my greatest musical influences change on a daily basis. The Pharcyde tops all in terms of looking back; Bizarre Ride 2 the Pharcyde was the first tape I bought with my own money. They were the first really live mc's I saw perform. Truth be told, alot of their songs are still with me, though I don't play them as much as I used to.
B.B. King was the largest single influence I can recall. Listening to him growing up, and the whole experience of seeing him live really had a huge impact on me.
What equipment do you use?
I will never tell. ever.
Anything else?
I'm confused by the necessity for last words, so here's where I say goodbye.
