NtraKit:
Influenced by Hip-Hop Pioneers Doug E Fresh and Slick Rick, N-TraKit, born Curtis L Walton, March 28,1977 found hip hop as a way to escape the harsh realities of being in foster homes and many abusive situations. Writing since the age of eight, he found a form of freedom in the poetry and raps he wrote. In these writings he found a way to express what he needed to express openly to friends, family, and anyone else that he had a thought for. By the age of 10 he had developed a passion for music and began to follow the careers of many artists. At thirteen, him and a co-worker from a youth summer program founded their first group, Geto Dope Krew, a hardcore hip hop group consisting of members PAC, Double S and himself Poochie, a name he borrowed from his older brother. Although the group didn’t last long, they recorded a single by the name of Geto Dope. Shortly after the groups dismantling, he decided to keep pursuing the dream and changed his name to MONT, which derives from the last four letters in his middle name and giving the name MONT an acronym, which meant Mack of Nine Ts’. After recording a couple of songs under the name Mont, he then proceeded to shop them as demos to several recording labels, but never received any responses. By the age of 16, the dream begin to take a back burner due to dropping out of high school, gang activity and then becoming a teenage father. But after a couple of years of the street life, drug addiction, two near death encounters and an 8 month jail term, he then returned to his passion of music. After receiving his GED and attending a community college, he then changed his name from N-Sane (given by a gang member) to N-TraKit. During that time he met Ronald Talley who he calls his music mentor and friend, and would learn music production, and engineering. They would come to form a production team and would then begin work on a compilation consisting of many local artist, with N-TraKit being the lead artist. Shortly thereafter, the death of N-TraKits’ mother would cause him to go in a deep depression and would cause him to go into a solitary state and begin to work alone. Which brings us to date. N-TraKit is currently working on his debut solo album, “ Tried By Fire “ due out March 2007, on his independent label, Given It 2Em Recordings. The album will include songs ranging from the personal tragedies, obstacles, and triumphs with all recordings produced, written, and engineered by N-TraKit himself except for two songs produced by Ronald Talley. The album is sure to be a head nodder, tear jerker and inspiration to people of all ages, & backgrounds. Not only that it's all for the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ.Have you performed in front of an audience?Yea, the studio is in the basement. Yes and No.
