Rat Alley were a late 80's hard rock/metal band that played various clubs throughout the Boston area including, The Channel, The Rat, Axis, Bunratty's, Edible Rex, the Rock Pile, and the Green Street Grill and have opened for various national acts such as Overkill, T.N.T, D'Priest and WORLD WAR III. The band was formed in mid 1989 when the remaining members of Iron Rage (John Williams and Tommi Gallo replacement drummer Mike Fitzgerald) were searching for a new bass player. They met with local bassist Chris Dahlstedt (formerly of Nasty and a early version of Tin Pan Alley)and they instantly knew they had the right combination. On New Year's eve 1989 as the year and the decade was coming to a close the band decided to rename themselves Rat Alley, named affectionately after a notorius alley in Boston where the band partied often and hard. The band rehearsed at the infamous Charlestown Music Complex, whose tenants included Missing Persons, The Cars, Extreme and many other bands from the area. Not to mention that Danny Hargrove, ex-bass player for The Joe Perry Project worked there as well. It was THE place to rehearse and party! That winter they cut a 24-track 5 song demo @ Euphoria Sound Studios in Revere, MA engineered by Dicky Spears. The demo sold over 300 copies at Tower records in the first three weeks and was played regularly on the local Nasty Habits radio show and on WAAF's local show Bay State Rock. The demo was given a excellent review by Metronome magazine and shortly thereafter the band was approached by Cherrydisk records to fly to California to remix and record some songs for a compilation. They played the notorius "Dangerous Dames" gig at the The Channel which earned The Channel a hefty fine for nudity and closed the doors on the club for a week. They were close to signing a record deal with Cherrydisk and opening for Motorhead at the Channel when the band decided to call it quits in January
