RMMJG Jam - Just Friends RMMJG Jam - Just Friends
I am ashamed to admit that I have never heard the tune Just Friends before. All I know about it is it is in the key of Bb. This is first take, obviously. Go easy on me : )
Autumn Leaves 01/08/05 Autumn Leaves 01/08/05
Finally got a microphone (Shure SM57) and decided to give recording my amp a go instead of the direct to PC thing. The tone is much much better I think with a miked amp.
Misty (Intro Only) Misty (Intro Only)
This is a very nice intro to Misty that I saw notated online somewhere (wish I could remember where to give credit) a while back and love.
Groove Time Groove Time
This is a bumpin little instrumental blues that, I think, demonstrates the influences of my latest favorite players - Albert Collins, Robben Ford, and Derek Trucks.

I started playing guitar when I was 20, and am now 32. For the first 4 years after I first picked up a guitar I played a lot, however I never felt like I was progressing like I should have. A lot of that was because I never took lessons or watched what other players were doing, and my practice time consisted of nothing more than noodling on the guitar. I regret that. After about 5 - 6 years of playing, I quit out of frustration. I went from "noodling" for 2 - 3 hours per day to not picking up my guitar again for another 5 years, until this past November when I decided to give it another shot. I decided to really *practice* this time around, and so far I've learned more in the past 7 months then I did all those years of noodling. I can play hold my own playing blues at open jams for the most part, but I really am studying jazz and it is proving to be really difficult. But I keep at it!Have you performed in front of an audience?I used to go to an open blues jam on Thursday nights. But then my wife and I had a baby, so that was out the window. I'm better off though, because now I actually devote time to practicing jazz (and music in general) instead of just seeing what licks I could come up with for the next blues jam!
Your musical influences
I've got 3 influences:
1. Albert King
2. Joe Mass (a fellow that I took lessons from for a year)
3. Jimmy Bruno (I hate to tarnish his image by claiming him as an influence...let's just say I'm using his No Nonsense Jazz Guitar video set and his other materials as learning tools to learn to play jazz)What equipment do you use?
1983 Fender Telecaster, made in USA, with EMG pickups through a Tech 21 Trademark 10 amp. The amp has an XLR out that I plug into a small mixer and then straight into the PC to record using Cool Edit Pro 2.0.Anything else?

Oh yeah! Love this one...The intro with the cool horn lines...and then the excellent jazz guitar solo play against it. Awesome work...Really enjoyed it
Mark..
Just spent a relaxing few minutes, listening to your stuff. Really dug it.
See you back at JBGI..

Good job on the melodies. Cool rhythm ideas and leads for bringing a pleasant mix together.

Man, your clips sound great! I mean, really really great! Those sounds that you said you recorded with a Trademark 10 directly sound extraordinary! I especially like "Groove time", sounds very SRV-ish with a twist of 50s/60s guitar sound...Never ever would've guessed they were recorded that way - more of a Dumble (or something like that :)) miked.. And your playing is also excellent, wish I could play like that! Well, this clips definately encouraged my GAS, so my GT-2 is coming really soon. :))
Keep 'em comin' man!
