Star Power. That is the biggest overall quality that a person needs to make it in today's entertainment industry. Unfortunately, "Star Power" has almost overshadowed actual talent when scouts discover an up and coming artist. It's all about the image, It's all about the feel. A pretty girl can't sing??? "It's okay, we have auto tuners and vocoders that even all that out and fix those wrong notes," they say. Yes, "Star Power" is needed to appeal to the public and ultimately sell records in today's music industry. When you couple that with vast, versitile, god given talent....that my friends, is when you have something really special. Rapper/Singer/Producer Rhymez (call me R.H.Y.) embodies that something special. Born Nicholas DeWayne Dobbins on September 20, 1987 at 6:19 pm in Camden, Arkansas on a sunday afternoon, R.H.Y. remembers his childhood vividly, as if it happened yesterday. "Yeah, I remember even the smallest details of things all the way back to about 1 year old, and I remember one instance when I was younger than that when my grandmother was washing clothes, I was drinking an orange drink and I walked into the living room and there were white people on the t.v. (I didn't know then but I'm guessing it was a soap opera cuz she loves those). This was all before I could even talk. What does that story have to do with anything??? Nothing, It's just to show just how advanced my brain is. I wasn't the baby to cheat on your wife in front and say, oh he's just a baby he don't know what he lookin at I can tell you that." When Nicholas was 5 years old, he first expressed himself by singing in the church chior. By seven he was leading it. Around 8 years old mother dearest decided to introduce him to the piano, purchasing him eric stiener piano books which instructed him how to play. "Yeah, I've never had lessons, NEVER. I can sight read and play by ear." By 10 he composed his first song on the piano..."It doesn't have a name, and trust me if it were wrote down on sheet music you'd probably go, Damn a 10 year old made that???? Yeah, a 10 year old made that. I have a natural ear for music, I never understood why people needed to buy a tuner to tune their instruments. My sister had one to tune her viola and she would blow into the E hole and it would play an E note. I always thought, don't you know what an E sounds like off the top of your head? I could just make an e sound with my mouth and set it to that. It wasn't until fairly recently that I learned that everyone can't do this. Most people can't." Rhymez had been singing and composing songs on the piano since 5 and 10 respectively, but it wasn't until the tender age of 15 that he decided to become a rapper/songwriter. "Actually, I wrote a couple times before that for fun, but I never stuck with it, until....." Until one day in October 2002 he met this girl. "I was young, I was so damn infatuated with her, but I was probably a bother to her, I apologize. If you're readin this you know who you are, I was a dumb kid then forgive me. But I thank you." Yes, he thanks her, because without her...."None of this shit on this page would even be possible. Yes, it is because of you that I am the rapper you see today." This girl he speaks of, she herself was a rapper. "She was a rapper, an artist, a great piano player, had a strong interest in music, and was gorgeous to my young eyes. Like I said before, forgive me for my foolishness girl if you're readin this cuz I was young then and that was all it took to make a young green around the ears muffucka like me want to rush into tryin to love you, I barely really knew you to tell the truth." With all these emotions on his mind, It was seein her rap, and seein how people crowded around her at the table in art class that made him want to try it. "It seemed they were just so interested in what she had to say, I was almost jealous. i was jealous." At lunch in the cafeteria, there would be freestyle battles. "I was just a spectator back then I couldn't freestyle yet, but my boy Mack was good. Somebody would do a beat on the table, my boy Mike was real good at that shit, makin hihat noises with pencils, man he was crucial. There would be crowds of people listenin in and all this went on in the lunch room, man, those were the dayzzz...damn I'm gettin old." It wasn't until the 11th by his friend Corzariaus that he was introduced to the beat making software that he still uses to this day. "I had told him I was into music earlier and one day he tapped me on the back in english class and told me about a music step sequencer program called FL Studio. (Check out the latest updates at Flstudio.com) Right now I use FL Studio 7 producer edition." Now he has fined tuned his rapping skills, his beat making skills, and sprinkles it with his singing talent and what do you have???? "Superstar rapper Rhy to tha Mez....someone who's name you hear for a very, very, VERY long time....If not tomorrow then one day!!!!!" He has the skill, the personality, the stage presence, the looks, and overall talent level to succed in the music game. "Some people in very high places have compared me to Lil' Wayne and Ludacris, I personally remind myself of Chamillionaire but I'm just tryin to do me, I pattern myself after nobody. For the few of you who took the time to read ALL of this, I thank you, I appreciate you, I love you, God Bless....."
