The Gynaecologists were a poetry/music duo that gigged and recorded in Teesside, UK, intermittently between 1979 and 1982. Musically, they attempted to emulate The Invisible Girls, backing band of John Cooper Clarke, poetically, there were elements of radical politics and humour.Band/artist history
The duo, John Hodgson (music) and Stan Wells (poetry) met in 1978 and shortly afterwards started writing and recording together. They released one single, "The Red Pullover/The Offence" on John's Teesbeat label in 1980. "The Red Pullover" also appeared on a Cherry Red compilation LP. Various other musicians passed through the ranks, recruited as and when they were needed for live performances. The band stopped in 1982, but John remixed the two single tracks in 2001.Have you performed in front of an audience? There were a number of live performances, most notably at The Boat in Stockton, and The Club Fiesta in Norton, which was recorded.
