SIPOL. To utter a shrill clear sound with air. To let out a note or two, or even more, of a treasured song or an unforgettable melody, in tune or otherwise. To momentarily break away from a task at hand or an unforgiving work day for a few precious seconds of inner peace. To indulge in a favorite past-time for some, a flaming passion for others. To blow away worries, frustration and exhaustion. To wordlessly sing about happy and memorable moments. To hope for better times ahead. To entertain. To get hooked. To make and honor Music from the heart and soul. To be free.Band/artist history
SIPOL is a new sound playing in the city, in the country. Conceptualized and formed in May of 2003 and reorganized in October 2005 under the musical direction of Marvin Querido, the group is collaboration among eight seasoned and promising musicians from popular and legendary bands as Neocolours, Second Wind, Parliament Syndicate, Mojofly, Ugoy-ugoy and Ntwine. Thus, its Music a natural by-product brought about by a wide spectrum of collective musical background and influences -- is a symphony of hit Pop-Jazz, classic and contemporary R&B, 70’s and 80's cover selections.
SIPOL has made a definite mark in the music industry with its debut album, Sipol: Unplug and Play, released in October 2004 with the carrier single, “Give Me One More Chance”. And the band’s unique flavor and originality in the said project earned it several nominations in the 2005 Awit Awards: Best New Group, Best Jazz Recording for the song “Higher than High” and Best Inspirational Song for “Hindi Diyos Nagbabago, Tao”.
Added testament to the band’s achievements are the air plays enjoyed by “Give Me One More Chance”, “Higher than High”, “Say It Isn’t So” and “It’s Only A Game” on popular radio stations such as Jam 88.3, Magic 89.9, Home Radio, The Mellow Touch 94.7, Crossover and 97.1 LSFM. “Give Me One More Chance” was counted along with other homegrown and international songs in Mellow Touch’s 2004 year-end countdown, while “It’s Only a Game” reached LSFM’s daily countdown.
Now, reorganized into a richer and more cohesive sounding group, SIPOL is set to reach greater heights in its Music and its contribution to the country’s music industry.
