Urban Reflektions Jazz (URJ) is a Kolkata based quartet built on an organic blend of Jazz,Rock,R&B,HipHop and Funk. In this day of solo artistry, what distinguishes URJ from most, is their returned emphasis on the band, where each member is recognized for their participation, and each influences the direction of the overall sound.
Founded by drummer/composer/producer Debashish "DEBU" Banerji in the year 2006, URJ has been a great force in shaping up the jazz fusion scenario in India today. Manned by some of the best musicians in India, URJ never fails to display the tremendous musical chemistry and dynamic personality through their performances.
URJ pays special attention to everything that makes a song find it’s own greatness. Melody, rhythm, instrumentation, arrangement and production are equally important and emphasized. URJ delves deep into the bright and endless realms of adventurous improvisations and complex experimentations of grooves. Although the band emphasizes on original compositions, it also ventures seamlessly into the international music charting out various compositions by John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Jaco pastorius, Herbie Hancock, etc. along with some interesting renditions of some of the jazz standards.

Since its inception as a band, URJ, has had the opportunity to perform at numerous venues both, within India and outside.
The band has performed at the Marakesh Lounge, I’Lounge, CC & FC, Bengal Club, City Centre, Taj Bengal, Planet M, Inox etc. just to name a few.
URJ is also the only band in India to have performed jazz fusion music in Dacca, Bangladesh at three prestigious venues to a packed audience of Bangladeshis and foreign diplomats.
URJ has performed at Fusion9 at Hyderabad and also at the Jazz Fest in Pondicherry.
Recently the band played live at The Blue Frog in Mumbai and at Shisha Jazz Cafe at Pune.
URJ also performs regularly at The Princeton Club, The Apartment and at Someplace Else from time to time.
The band and the members , in their individual capacities, have also colaborated with quite a few renowned artists from over the world, like : Mr. Herbie Hancock, Scott Kinsey, Seamus Blake, Bicram Ghosh, Tanmoy Bose, Mathius Mueller, Amit Heri, ect. just to name a few.
