Below is just a taste of what you can choose from at: http://producer.givemebeats.com/guttertracksBand/artist history
Growing up in Brooklyn, I could remember every Friday night listening to DJs on the radio cut-up Slick Rick, BDP, Special Ed, and other hip-hop records of that time, I wanted to be just like those radio DJs. At age 15 I got my first pair of Gemini turntables. I must have played those things to death; I was always playing music. In 12th grade I had a choice to get my GED or go to City as Schools, another bio altogether, which was a program where instead of a classroom, students worked in different office environments to earn high school credits. I landed this one “class” at Grabar Productions; they supplied music for fashion shows for the biggest names in fashion. Being a DJ, my job was to mix music for the shows, almost like re-mixing songs to make them longer or shorter. The owner liked my style of mixing, so I eventually did all the mixing for him. That was when I got my first taste of a Technics 1200, I definitely had to get a pair of these, and of course I did. I learned a lot of new mixing techniques through a club DJ, who was a partner in the company, Kevin Edwards. Working there I also got a taste of hard, underground and deep house; I fell in love with the music and the culture.
I then wanted to pursue a career in Audio Recording, so enrolled in an upstate SUNY college. I made money by playing house parties and private parties, word got around and I starting doing small clubs in the Rochester area. Being away from the City was just too much for me, so I moved back and transferred to the New School for Social Research, for an Audio Recording Certificate. Hanging out at a couple record stores I started meeting a lot of DJs. I was either in Vinyl Mania or Fat Beats, where I tried out for a DJ battle and got in, I finished top ten. I then started buying records from Eightball Records, which soon became my home away from home. I was chill’n with some big name DJs, Manny Ward, John Creamer, and then met Junior Vasquez, who I had been admiring from those Sound Factory days.
After being in the recording classes I decided to set up my own home studio. After about a year or two “My Joint Studios” was open for business. I‘ve produced, arranged and created hip-hop, R&B and house tracks, as well as recorded demos in my studio. I then shopped the demos around to major record labels, and entertainment lawyers in New York City.
In NYC I was playing 2i’s on Thursdays, which was mostly hip-hop and reggae. Fridays I was at Rebar, which was also hip-hop and reggae. On Saturdays I was at Chaos. At Chaos I played deep hard house and classic house, with the occasional vocal and live turntable re-mix, but once 1 o’clock rolled around I changed to hip- hop. I was also resident DJ at Float; you might get a peek of that club from a hip- hop video or two, including Nas and Puffy, Hate Me Now. I also supplied mixed cds of 70’s and funk music for the VIP lounge. Before the opening of Float, I was in charge of the sound system, which included suggestions on equipment, upgrades, and trouble shooting. I also played a couple of nights here and there at 23 Watts, mostly hip hop and house.
In 1999 I moved upstate to Rochester, NY, where I opened a nightclub called Chrome. It was a 5000 square foot venue that catered to an upscale crowd. Our format was house, latin, hip-hop and reggae. We also brought in well known Dj’s including Craig G, and Kay Slay. DJ Green Lantern was our resident DJ every Sunday night. We even had Camron and Mr. Cheeks perform live. After 2 years in the club game, I really needed a change from the politics, atmosphere, and weather in Rochester, so I decided to move near the beach in Delaware.
I now have a full production studio in my home and will be producing and recording demos for local talent. I also produce beats to sell on the internet. I am currently looking to play radio as well as nightclubs in Philly, Baltimore, Ocean City and other surrounding areas.
I play a variety of classics, classic house, 70’s, funk, deep house, hard progressive house, hip-hop, R&B, and reggae. Although I have a wide variety of music, I can play one type, or switch it up during the night, depending on the crowd, and the atmosphere, but my heart always goes back to my Brooklyn roots, and the hip hop culture.Have you performed in front of an audience?I played alot of small hip hop clubs, along with big venues in NYC before i started producing beats.
