This site is my ever-growing online "portfolio" showing off some of the favorite works I've performed drums on as well as a conveyence of my recording and performance experience. I've included the home studio equipment production notes with each song in it's "Info" to achieve the guitar and/or drum sound. I mostly work in the realm of instrumental guitar and drums and not much with vocalists or bassists. I approach drums holistically and believe that drums should be tailored to sound unique for each song or musical passage as opposed to utilizing one base, overly produced "sound". I'm not using any extravagant or specialized studio equipment anyone else can't buy off the shelf and my intention with this space is to convey some of the creative tips and tricks I've used to recording the best quality at home that can help you get your drums to sound more real and energetic when translated to the digital recording realm. As most who will find this space useful have probably found, recording great sounding drums is never quite as easy as pluggin mics in and hitting "record". Tha's why I've now updated to a Roland TD-20S v-drum system and NOW it's plug an play.
Band/artist history
I have alot of history. I'm 30 yrs. old now and have been playing drums since I was 9. I have played in countless bands and with a few celebrities and numerous combinations of some very talented people. I feel blessed for my life experiences. I should be better than I am but I am always trying to learn something new although that's not the easiest thing to do. I take in pre-recorded tracks from various musicians around the US if I don't record "in house" here and lay tracks to their material only if it moves me personally so lately, I've been sort of a home recording session player. I do this purely for the fun and challenge of something new as do the other musicians I work with. I've wasted plenty of time to get great sounding drums and since the niche focus on this Drumworks site is purely for entertainment purposes, hopefully it will help or influence someone else out there out along their musical journey.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I've played many live shows and look forward to it every time. Although live shows is where it's at, my focus right now is in the recording realm helping other fellow musicians like myself in live-music deficient areas can get their talent heard by many more people over time than touring.
Your musical influences
I am influenced by all of the great drummers of our time.
What equipment do you use?
My core gear consists of a Presonus Firepod, various affordable budget-line microphones (Nady DM70/80's, MXL 990/991, SM57/58) commonly found in the home recording environs and Arboretum Systems Hyperprism DX plugins, N-Track Studio Mutitrack recording program and lot of free time. I have a Pacific MX 6-piece "plain jane" matte emerald fade kit with an array of Zildjian A and Z cymbals I use live. I also have a 1970's-era Ludwig Classic "Bonham style" kit I played on for the longest time but the road has taken it's toll on it so I've put it into early retirement. I recently acquired a Roland TD-20 set and that has definitely breathed new life into my recordings. I'm wanting to integrate the Roland trigger system into my acoustic drums ultimately but for now, I keep the two kits sperate. I can easily get a much more quality recorded sound out of the Rolands but I miss the look of my acoustic drums.
Anything else?
Listen to the songs. If you like them, I have gone to the trouble of inputting production notes with each track if you like the sound and want to emulate it.
