John began playing solo shows in St. John's around 2002/03, opening for such acts as Persona (The Novaks), the Jill Porter Band, and the M.O.'s. Shortly after, a band was formed, but difficulty in keeping a steady bass player didn't allow things to get off the ground.
In early 2005, John won the MIANL New Talent Demo Grant, and recorded a 4-song demo with Don Ellis.
In the fall of 2005, M.O.'s drummer Alex Cornick joined the group, along with Ryan Norman from the same band, who had already played bass for Brophy. This version of the band is playing around St. John's now, and should soon have enough songs to be playing their own shows.
