Nez Digital is rapper/dj and co-owner of JahGydeYah Records LLC. JahGydeYah is an independent record company located in South Florida that specializes in Roots/Reggae, Dancehall,and Hip Hop. Currenlty Nez spends majority of his time handling label biz, but also finds time to work on his craft in between.Band/artist history
Nez, or Nez Digital, as he is commonly referred to as by his I-drens, is not just your everyday aspiring rapper/deejay (reggae), he is also is an astute businessman and co-owner of JahGydeYah Records, LLC.
Born in Miami, Fl, Nez was subsequently raised in Stony Hill, St. Andrew, Jamaica. These are the days that hold the most influence over the person Nez has grown to be. It was there, Nez would get into arguments with his older brother about “borrowing” audiotapes of Rap’s pioneers such as Public Enemy, BDP, Big Daddy Kane, EPMD, amongst others. It was there, in Orange Grove, Nez would meet other music-oriented people and first got involved with music by forming a small sound system and collecting records from their parents stash. During this time his interests were more geared towards playing music, than making music. While attending Jamaica College during the years 89-94, Nez became even more exposed to hardcore dancehall through schoolmates. And thus, is equally influenced by both the dancehall and hip hop cultures.
At age 15, Nez migrated to Miami, Fl, and took a hiatus from music to pursue educational goals. After the passing of his father in late 1996, Nez returned to Jamaica. It was during this period Nez started experimenting with songwriting, perhaps as a method of coping with his loss.
Nez returned to Florida and continued his education. Over time, he has continued writing lyrics, evolving from a straight dancehall deejay, to a vocal style more of a merger of rap and dancehall. His musical influences varies from Roots/Reggae greats, to dancehall giants, to hip hop legends.
With JahGydeYah Records now up and running, Nez is now ready to showcase his talent. He is currently working on his 1st project, tentatively titled 8 Banana Walk: RootzRapMuzik. The bridge between music executive and recording artist is a tricky balance, but Nez intends to continue to see to label business and to continue to write and record music he likes to call Rootz Rap.Have you performed in front of an audience?Not right now, but shortly
