DIALECTIC is Hita aka The Dazed Jaywalker, who delivers the keynote speeches and smacks up a few tracks; DJ Flatpac, who makes the rest of the music using chopsticks and a brick; and Needlenose, who does after-dinner speaking for you crazy wankers...Have you performed in front of an audience?We've all got roots in rock, and all used to play in live bands. Hita and Flatpac were in a band together, with Hita playing guitar and Flatpac on bass. Needlenose has played drums in a few bands. Hita's also a turntablist. As well as using these instruments for Dialectic, it also means we're trying to get a way we can perform live with real instruments as well as live sampling. It's harder than you'd think to spit and drum... We're not rap-rock though, don't worry.
Your musical influences
We use and admire a lot of Jazz, Bossanova, Funk, Soul, some Rock, but we look at it all from the perspective of the hip-hop we're making. There are contemporary influences like the Stones Throw label in the US, Low Life here in the UK, and groups like Non-Phixion too, but above all, its ourselves; our mindset when we're making a track, what we've been listening to, how stoned we are... its all an influence.What equipment do you use?
