Picture for you Picture for you

A slow heavy/soft/rock thing about depression. Don't take it seriously - its just we wanted a broody song.

Graffiti on the Gates of Heaven Graffiti on the Gates of Heaven

A song about teenage life and the search for identity. Where everyone puts themselves into catagories and pigeon holes their personalities just so that they can be popular. Bit of Punk/Rock. Hope you like it!

Punk

Right! Well, well, well. We are An India/Alternative band from Rugby, called Manaquin! We are influenced by the likes of Arctic Monkeys, The Kooks, Stereophonnics, etc. I say We- that Jonny Shelton on Main vocals and rhythm guitar, Tom Hand on Lead Guitar, Jack Coleman on Bass and Lewis Macleod on drums. We currently use "Smells Like Teen Spirit" as our opening song at gigs, but our material isnt that heavy.
Band/artist history
Bloody hell, could be here for a while. The original Manaquin was James Grady (Who did what Jonny does now), Jonny Shelton(Who did bass), Ben Knowles(Who did guitar), and Charlie Andrews(who did drums). the first band name was "Operation Holland", after jonny had a seriously boring english lesson. The first Manaquin did American Idiot by Green Day at the end of year assembly, but in the summer that folowed, ben was replaced with handy, who you know as Tom Hand, and the band name swithced to "Seven Story Tour". In the year 9 section of things, charlie left after musical differences with Jonny. Lewis Macleod stepped in, and the band name after about 2months went from "Seven Story Tour" to "Manaquin". The band was complete - for the time. Tom Hand: "Manaquin with Lewis and james wasnt Manaquin, it was james. he bought a recording studio for his pc, and just recorded with an auto drummer and auto bass." In all fairness, it wasnt an iconic band team effort - with a shocking 3 practises in around 9 months.the manaquin with james, tom, lewis and jonny never did perform live. They learnt their lesson though - In april/may time, james got through an audition to become a frontman for a band created by the local council. Manaquin were split again. James left, then jonny decided a break was in order. Jonny:"We just suddenly ended. the worst part was tom and lewis werent informed." And so, a good 3 months were spent by Shelton, making riffs (and did a small project with a band called "The Blacktop Record", which became nothing, but included Tom Hand, Ben Knowles, Jack Coleman and Rhys Parsons, a good friend of manaquin) who wrote "Living The Dream" in that time, and also was in 2 bands for about a week. Lewis:"I remembergoing to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers with Jonny. i turned to him and said, "Lets get Manaquin going again". Jonny now had a mission, along with lewis and tom. the 3 agreed not to split, but to bring in a new member - but who? the options were previous guitarist Ben knowles, with jonny staying on bass, or jack coleman, and jonny going to bass. the main vote was jack. (anyone who knows the band will know ben is a nutter. :P) Jack:"It's not as if we didnt like ben, but he wouldnt of helped as a member. he lived in coventry, and didnt have a kit. all four of us have accessable kits for any disposal." And so, manaquin was reformed for the 3rd time. they played "Smells Like Teen Spirit" in a small festival at lewis's drum teacher's barn. Jonny:"a month and already a gig under a belt - well, a song live to an audience of around 200. im proud. no other manaquin could do this, even if we had hendrix." Manaquin have had the taste of live performances, now they want a full on bite.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
We do play live, we have done a small fesitval in daventry. but thats not bad seen as though, upon writing this, the band have been together for a month. We loved every moment of it. special moments - you be the judge of that.
Your musical influences
Indie Music Mainly. Arctic Monkeys Snow Patrol Franz Ferdinand Nirvana Foo Fighters.
What equipment do you use?
Fender Squier Bullet, Coxx Classic, A Peavey Milestone bass, and a Performance Percussion Drum Kit.
Anything else?
If you don't have a band, get one - ITS GREAT! It dosn't matter if you can't play anything - have a foot tapping band if that is the case. We love what we do and if other people enjoy it too then its a bonus!
