A good mix of style and personality, Woodrose has been a favorite for years. Howard Brady's smokey vocals have broken many a heart.
Band/artist history
Woodrose was originally formed around 1972 in Edmond, Okla. by Howard Brady (acoustic guitar & lead vocals), and has had many different members. Howard started playing with some local boys, and they would play for anybody who would listen. I don't know much else about the early years. I came along in 1984 and I only played with them for about a year and a half when Howard was transferred by AT&T to Denver. We made the recordings at Benson Sound in Oklahoma City on a Saturday morning just a few months before we went seperate ways. The tape was just a demo to get gigs. Who'd have thought that Woodrose would find a whole new audience 17 years later. I always knew I had lightning in a bottle, I just didn't know what to do with it. The guys in Woodrose were a trip! Howard, in his trademark Hawaiian shirts and beard, looked like a seasoned Micheal Murphy and was ADORED by the ladies. He had em in the palm of his hand by the end of the night, and then gracefully bowed out to go home to his beautiful wife and wonderful little daughters. Steve and Tim Morse were twins, and totally different people. Tim (acoustic guitar, vocals) was the quiet reserved level-headed one, and Steve (fiddle, lap steel, electric mandolin, vocals) - well, he was kind of a nut! They were both tall and lanky Okies. Jimmy Bennett (electric guitar) was a good old boy and a fine lead player. He kind of kept to himself a lot. Bob Albaugh (bass) played better than any bass player in town, and we were damn lucky to have him! He was a lot of fun. That leaves me (drums), and I guess you could say that I was just thrilled to death to have been chosen as their drummer. They could have had anyone in town, and I was the one. I made sure I showed up on time!
