B.L.O (in my own words)
I go by the name of B.L.O
Born as Ronald Clifton Bullock in the Northeast Bronx, NY
(the name originated as II Cold Blo (which I somehow thought sounded cool as a kid, then it eventually evolved into B.L.O with the acronyms standing for the Best Lyricist Out)
I am an mc, songwriter, producer, radio host and personality, DJ, promoter, event Booker and planner, sound engineer as well as a host of other things that fall under the entertainment umbrella.
I grew up in the 80s probably musics most experimental era. As a kid I was a fan of all styles and genres but I gravitated to hip hop and fell in love with acts such as The Fat Boys, Kid n Play & DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, the acts that had more of a humorous personality and light side to them as they made hip hop and rap music seem fun. I started writing rap songs at the young age of 9 years old, really just being goofy trying to impress the girl that sat next to me in school back in the 4th grade and a year later in the 5th grade, I had my first opportunity to perform my raps in front of an audience at a black history month assembly as I performed a Martin Luther King Jr. rap song. Oddly enough months later, a brand new rap group named Kris Kross exploded onto the scene. They were about a year or two older than me at the time and just as impressive, their producer Jermaine Dupri was just shy of 18 himself, I seen this as a huge deal because it showed me that you didnt have to be grown to be a rapper and it made me more serious about making music.
I started a rap group with my friends as I hit my pre-teens hoping to have a similar success to Kris Kross and other kid rap acts (as there were several at the time). I learned that my friends were never as serious about making music as it took them no-showing our first talent show to teach me this lesson. That talent show resulted in an embarrassing experience, me writing a solo song at the last minute and forgetting the second verse after getting a great response on the first. I used that experience as motivation that would be the fuel to accelerate my passionate drive to be a success in the world of hip hop.
I've been running and operating my record production label Bomb Baby Unlimited since I was 14. I started it because I loved planning and strategizing. As my friends were seeing firsthand how serious I was becoming about music they slowly started to find their way back to me and tried their hand again at music joining my label. I never had anyone to show me the ropes, teach me about the industry or take me into a recording studio. Our early experiences were recording songs on home stereo systems and karaoke machines onto blank cassette tapes and selling them in school. For beats I purchased tons of record, cassette and cd singles of songs we liked with hopes that there was an instrumental on it (imagine how mad I am now that most of these instrumentals and more are now on YouTube). I read library books about the music business and business in general and typed up my own recording contracts, registered with ASCAP and wrote up business plans all while in high school. As time went on we upgraded, step by step from equipment, to music quality to artist and personnel to experiences. The label completely grew and shaped into a one stop shop entertainment company. Many trials and tribulations, failed attempts, errors, erases and do overs, As of 2022 We have released 10 albums into major retail and currently have our own global distribution which puts our products into more than 800 digital stores including all of the major chains (iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Tidal, YouTube, Soundcloud, Napster just to name a few) .
I have been putting on events since 2005. Just a fortunate opportunity where I was booked to perform in an event and the promoter didnt want to follow thru with the show and gave it to me. That was my start and I never stopped. I started doing my own Bomb Baby branded showcases as an attempt to grow our brand and get our artist exposure and experience as well as work on their stage presence and image. It opened the doors for other acts to be involved and I reluctantly became a renowned show promoter in New York City and have presented hundreds of events which have taken place in 4 of the 5 boroughs and have hosted well over 500 performers of all genre and experience level. Of those events I have also hosted the North Bronx's first weekly All R&B showcase series as well as the North Bronx's first completely free monthly community all ages showcase series called Bomb Baby Unlimited's Live From Tha Hood Showcase Series which was dedicated to providing a safe environment for people of all levels of experience to channel their creative energy as opposed to being in the streets.
I have served as an A&R rep for a label which was a subsidiary to Sony music and have worked with artist that have gold and platinum status to their credit.
I created a radio show called The Bomb Baby Experience Radio Show which caters to the world of independent urban entertainment and have interviewed over 50 up and coming artist as well as entertainment veterans and legends in urban music. It has been running since late 2014 and is still going.
I went on to and operate a radio station called Bomb Baby Radio Network which caters to underground and independent urban music including the genres of hip hop, r&b, pop, inspirational and world music . We currently have over 4000 subscribers combined via iTunes, Google play, BlackBerry and Roku.
I am also on the board of directors for a nonprofit organization called Seize the Cure Epilepsy Awareness. Which marries the awareness and education of the disease Epilepsy and other related mental and neurological illnesses with arts and entertainment. As of 2023, I've been recording and setting to release my sophomore album.
