Love them or hate them, it's your call. Summer's Over is gearing up to take Singapore's music scence to whole new level. Leaving all local band publicity aside, music is the key motivation that keeps this band alive and music rocking harder.
With the start of being a punk rock based band, Summer's Over has expanded it's style of music to rock and roll, metal and emo but staying true to the roots of punk rock music. Bands such as The Used, The Suns a.k.a The Boredphucks, Iron Maiden and The Get Up Kids has mostly influenced, the style of music composed by the band. An orginal composition by the band " In This World " has given Summer's Over a name to which most would call it " catchy! Rock On, Rock Hard. Keep the music alive.Band/artist history
this is goanna be a walk down memory lane! well, it all started off in 2003 when me, kyns the bassist and arrniz the lead guitarist sat down during Hari Raya and thought it would be fun to start our own punk rock band. both if us were 15 and were best of friends since high school and shared a common interest in music, punk rock and it's style. arniz has been playing the guitar since he was three and me on the other hand, had only played bass for two years. but well, it all begun with the band No Use Records, when we had Surianti, she was only 16 and she was our drummer, also from the same high school. it was a three piece band that played punk rock music and nothing else. songs from blink182, rancid and green day. we were in it for the fun and of course the close friendship that all three of us had together. she was the drum major of our in high school. well, that was kind of the reason why Arniz and i wanted her to be in our band. even before that, she was a close friend. we wrote some orgianl songs based on everyday life and played them. No Use Records joined the Asian Beats in 2003 and managed to qualify to the semi-finals but was eliminated then after. but after a year or so, she left the band to further her studies. me and arniz were taken back at that moment and it felt like we had lost our best friend. but with much determination and much patients, arniz and i started to scout for another drummer. i guess it was in the month of may 2004 that i went down to Far East Plaza and came across a skate shop, Sponge which Sher was working in. and that's where the all magic began. the first thing that caught me was how tall he was, his huge expanded ear, his short spiked blonde hair and of course his tattoos. others would be too worried or too shy to talked to him but i just went up to him and asked him how old he was and what kind of music he was into. his was 20 and was into punk rock music. well, judging from his dress style, he short spike blonde hair and the tattoos he had, it was obvious he was. i remember the times where we would stand in the shop and talk about bands. he would be telling me stuff about his former band, The Covers and how he played the guitar, ( yes the LEAD guitar) and i would be on about would be on about how my band is missing a drummer and we're scouting for one right now, and after a week or two getting to know him, i popped the question, "would you like to try playing drums for our band?". his answer at that moment was undecided. reasoning being he had only the basic of playing the drums and he was worried he might be wasting our time. oh hell, his answer in the end, yes and we exchanged numbers. as happy as i was, i called up my best friend and guitarist, Arniz and trust me, both of us were worried of the outcome. it's pretty much like putting your hand into a black bag, not knowing what you might find. it was kind of difficult getting a day down for a session because of his work and we were still in school. but we decided to take one Saturday off and head down for a 'try out' session. i met arniz at our usual meeting point at Tampines Interchange and waited for Sher. and yes, he was early. on another note, me and arniz are never early. we have a tendency of being late. blame it on our bad time management. AND the story continues. when we got to the studio and plugged in our instruments, tuned it up and we stood there and stared at each other in total blankness, wondering what the hell to do next. and let me say, it feels so weird being in the same room with a new face, it feels like a new piece of furniture just trying to fit in. i wasn't the only one in the room feeling that way, arniz was feeling the same way from the expression on his face. all of a sudden, i broke the silence and shot out saying "why not we try carousel from blink182?". to me, it was a song to test how good Sher's tempo was. it was fast and tight, the perfect song to test a drummer. halfway through the song, i could swear, all three of us could feel something was just 'right' about being there. like me and Arniz had found our missing arm. after everything was over and done with, we sat down and shared our thoughts about the session. the word for that session 'perfect'. all three of us felt good but somehow, something was missing still, like it still need an extra flavor or spice. me and Arniz had always thought of having a second guitarist but never could come around doing so. reason being, we weren't sure if that particular person would fit in. so both of us consulted Sher and asked what his thoughts were about having another guitarist. amazingly, he was thinking the same and he had someone in mind already. the days passed and we kept in contact, all three of us. a couple of weeks later, Sher had told us that he managed to fix a time and date for us to meet up and have a session. again, it was a Saturday, but this time, it was in the evening. me and Arniz didn't have a clue how he looked like, how things would work out and how it would feel. once again, we were back to the start, a black bag with no clue what was in it. the day came and Sher managed to book a studio in town. it was central and it was convinent for all of us. Sher lived it the north, me and Arniz in the east and our new guitarist, in the west. Arniz, Sher and i met up in town and walked down to Forum in Orchand and headed to the studio. as we plugged in our instruments and tuned it, we waited for the new guitarist to arrive. the door of the studio opened and we saw him walk in. he looked laid back, with skate shoes and a black t-shirt and jeans. he introduced himself, Ajie and shook our hands. i swear, it felt all weired again, seeing a new face in the same room again. he took out his guitar and plugged it in, tuned it and we began to decided on a song to play. i think we stood there for five mintues looking at each other, with a blank mind thinking of a song. Ajie then said "mxpx, today's in my way". we all agreed, knowing on how the song went and the song started. at the moment itself, i felt as if it was complete. like we had found the missing link to a band. an hour passed and then after, we sat down and talked about the session. for me, i wanted to know more about Ajie before i could judge him. he said he was 22 and was currently working. he was formaly from the band, P.O.V also know as Point Of View. he has been playing the guitar since he was 15 and has played loads of shows, some in Malaysia and some here. he choice of music was punk rock, ska or metal. it was something new for all of us, something different but we all knew it felt great. Arniz and i knew for a fact that we had someone, different in the choice of music and experienced in the local music industry. all we knew was we wanted him in. this time, Arniz had was the one who popped the question, "would you like to play for us?". he answer was a defined yes. all of us exchanged numbers and we made our way home. we kept in contact for the next few weeks and planned for our next session. i think it was a Friday evening when we met up in town. Sher booked the same studio we played for the first time, all four of us. this session would last for two hours reason because we wanted more time to get to know each other and have a better feel on the band. the first song we played was a orginal compostion by Arniz and i when we were in No Use Records, In This World. both of us taught Sher and Ajie the song and soon after, it began. i could swear, this song felt better than before. it felt fuller and much more full of engery. and plus, Ajie busted out with a new guitar rift that shocked Arniz and most of all me. i could never expect he could be so skilled on the guitar. i bet all of us knew this band felt right and all we were missing now was a name. at this time, all of us were craking our heads with a name, Last Minutes was one of the choices. But one morning, i woke up to a message from Sher saying "why not name our band Summer's Over?". i called him back and asked him what made him think of the name. his reply, "all of us met at the end of July", which was the end of Summer and that gave him the insperation, Summer's Over. all of us felt it was the right thing to do, knowing that we could relate to the band. from then, we compose our own music. taking the words from punk rock music, the sound of metal, ska and punk music and mix them all up and you'll get Summer's Over. we've had the honour of playing a couple of live shows in the past and the rest it is history.
Quote frm Kyns. Summer's Over feels more like a family more than a band. if i had choice between Summer's Over and being friends with Arniz, Ajie and Sher i would rather be with friends them.Have you performed in front of an audience?we always do everywhere and anywhere. special moments? it's when all of us feel the music and it becomes one.
