Ive always thoguht that if the current scene took 10 to 20 years to arrise to its mighty self then if im 17 then at least by the time im 37 il be making decent enough tracks. Im not that slow or boring and although the music will progress like rock i think hip hop and electronica are here to stay.
i think i know what a compressor is but it doesn't seem that important. Other than showing music to people I am really not to bothered about the quality of the tracks although i agree to downlaod them here would be the smart idea. I just want my friends or people like you to hear them and say "Its crap" or "i like it" or "it needs this" or "how did you do that"Thats all i need. My melodies is a problem. to help you along with what i mean about comercial I just mean good songs really. I have a very underground taste in music but i would prefer to make the Fatboy Slim/Daft Punk/Midfield General style. You don't know what a compressor is? uh-oh.... Well, never mind, you will find it out, but remember this: YOU ARE GOING TO NEED IT!!! Get to the music store and buy one. There are some nice ones around 150 pounds. Not that expensive. Sonic Foundry might have a compressor as plug in. Check it out, and also check the "normalize" function. The most important tool together with compression when you are mastering your tracks.
Compresser? Whats that. Oh and while im hear does anybody know where to get a vocoder type plug in for sonic foundry.
The answer to both questions is "no". Rhytmns are good, but melodies are not so good. You have a lot to learn, but you have talent enough to get it right eventually. One tip: Get a compressor! If you want to make commercial music, it's a must have. You can't do without it, because it will make youre tracks pump like hell!
