The Field Comprises of :- Tom Pigot - Vocals and guitar Tom, having been born in new York and educated in England, has the most cosmopolitan background in the band. He shares a wide taste in music with the rest of the group, but his preferences lean towards the Jazz/funk end of the scale. He is currently listening to James Brown, Nat King Cole, Miles Davis and The Stereo MCs. Seán Nolan - Guitars and vocals Seán started his musical life as a drummer, a fact that is evident in his rhythmic guitar style. He loves American roots music and cites Ry Cooder as his all time hero. He is also very fond of Irish folk ballads and used to spend quite a lot of time belting out come-all-ye's when he lived in London. Dáire Lawlor - Guitars and backing vocals Dáire's musical taste is also broad. He tends to enjoy strong songs rather than any particular genre. He is currently particularly interested in folk generally, with an emphasis on Irish traditional music. He is listening to IOUs Youssa N'Dour, Frank Zappa, Rory Gallagher and Jimmy Hendrix at present. Michael Cleary - Bass Guitar. Mick is a certifiable blues nut - a fact belied by his Elvisesque (?) hair cut! He can sometimes be found moonlighting with his blues band "Hot Chicken" at the weekends. He is also a skilled potter and has a kiln in his back garden where he produces ceramics for sale. Paul Kennedy - Percussion Paul started off on the tin whisle and flute finally settling in the art of percussion. Paul, I forgot to ask what your musical influences are but after hearing what you like the other night I am afraid...very afraid!!!

The Field was formed in the early 90's and played their first gig on the fringes of the Cork Jazz Festival in Kinsale in October 1992. Since then the band has been gigging fairly consistently, gradually building up our following playing such venues as Whelans, The Baggot Inn, The Rock Garden, Barnstormers, The Waterfront UCD and Trinity College along with smaller venues in Bray, Dublin, Limerick and Cork. We were also invited to appear at EuroPop Day's in Freiburg in Germany which was a great success. Recording The Field won the Paddy Limerick Music Expo '94 outright and decided to invest the winnings in some recording and equipment. However, when we went into the Works studios with Rod Callan we were so pleased with the results that we decided to go all the way and release our own CD - primarily as an exercise in promotion, but also as an educational exercise in the nuts and bolts of the music industry. We begged, borrowed and stole to see the project through and launched it with the help of the Paddy people just before Christmas. The CD went on to the 2FM daytime playlist and got a lot of exposure also on 98FM and East Coast radio. While the CD has primarily been used for promotional purposes sales at gigs have been satisfactory with almost all of the band's expenses covered at this stage. Media Coverage. The release of The Field's CD saw us getting quite a bit of coverage in the press with mentions and photos published in The Sunday Business Post, The Evening Press, In Dublin, Southside, The Evening Herald, The Limerick Leader and The Hot Press. The Field have done live spots and interviews on East Coast Radio, Radio na Life and Jim O'Neill's Totally Irish Show on 98FM. We have also played live on Television for The Gerry Ryan Tonight Show on Network 2.
