Gary Johnston (piano) and Denise Lear (double bass) are "Johnston and Lear" , the creative core of a new smooth jazz group here in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada.
Along with Richard Spurrell on drums, Jason Hayward on saxophones and Patrick Boyle on trumpet they bring a fresh, vibrant sound to their original compositions.

Gary and Denise met in 1994 when Gary called her looking for a bassist with whom he could form a good musical "relationship". By 1996 they were married and have performed in several different formats, duo to quintet.
They recently went into the studio to record some of Gary's originals and "In A Heartbeat" was born.Have you performed in front of an audience?We perform live in mostly soft-seat venues and in jazz rooms where listening is the order of the day.
