Dimitar was born on the 17th of September, 1979 in Bulgaria.
Since he was 8, he has been constantly involved in music - singing in a choir, playing trombone, saxophone, piano and drums in the Music High school in Varna, Bulgaria. But his affinity for jazz and improvisation developed at home, picking up favourite melodies from the radio and records.
Later, his passion for piano took over and he was admitted in Sofia Conservatory of Music with Major ‘jazz piano’ . In Sofia he performed as a leader or a sideman in various jazz clubs, at festivals, TV shows.
Since 2000, Dimitar has been working and studying in the Netherlands. In 2002 he obtained bachelour diploma; and in April 2004 he graduated cum laude as a Master degree student in Rotterdam Conservatory in major ‘jazz piano’. Recently, in November 2006 he has graduated ‘jazz composition and arranging’ in the same school.
Dimitar has been touring in the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Albania.
In 2002, he was awarded 3 jazz prizes: Erasmus Jazz Competition, Rotterdam; Leidse Stad Jazz Competition in Leiden, and Pim Jacobs Jazz Competition in Rotterdam.
In July 2005, he participated the Solo Piano Jazz Competition in Montreux, Switzerland.
And in January 2007 Dimitar won the Young Pianist Foundation Jazz Competition 2007.Band/artist history
The led by the Bulgarian pianist and composer Dimitar Bodurov has been in demand since September 2001. Through the years, the band worked out a large repertoire of mainly original compositions, though the Bulgarian folklore tradition influences more and more the sound of the trio. In early 2004, the band has released its debut album ‘Melatonic’, for the Norwegian label Acoustic Records, with exclusively own compositions. John Taylor commented it as: ‘A marvelous debut! ’. As a result of Bodurov’s passion for Bulgarian folklore music the following two projects came to life: ‘The Resumption Suite’ 2005 and ‘Stamps from Bulgaria’ 2007, their latest project. The band has toured in Holland, Germany, Belgium, Austria and Bulgaria.Have you performed in front of an audience?Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Bulgaria
