hello my name is steven taylor
no band here!....i've been gathering musical equipment over the years and trying to learn how to play different instruments....i've had some training on piano and guitar but only for a few months....so i sit in my recording room and work on music for my own enjoyment....i've never really shared my songs with anyone before....the music is my meditation sometimes....besides i realize especially after listening to so many talented artist here on soundclick that i'm far behind in the execution and production of my material....but i decided what the heck....i think some of my songs have potential if put into the right hands....

i started many years ago with a c64 and a roland jx3p....i bought a few more synths over the years and started doing a lot of midi/sequenced music....jazzy instrumentals and new age ambient....i had a long dry spell for a few years (10+ yikes!) where i wasn't interested in playing....i rekindled my desire in the last 5 years or so....i've changed my method of writing and recording....i play all the instruments live now....one track at a time....no loops/tracks/sequencers....i'm sure i could get a cleaner sound by editing the heck out of everything or using pre-programmed drums and riffs but i'm feeling more organic these days so it is what it is!!....i keep it simple guitar/bass/drums/keys and a couple of vocals....
revised!....ok so now i went out and bought pro tools....i'm learning yet another recording technique!....i'm looking forward now to creating a blend between my organic feel and a loop type sound....without i hope feeling mechanical or programed....right now i think my next couple of songs will be still "band" based but i'm looking forward to expanding my horizons...Have you performed in front of an audience?i haven't in years....i used to play piano and bass in a Christian band....also i played and sang at church....does karaoke count? :)
Your musical influences
james brown, jimi hendrix and prince are my musical heroes....i don't have the chops to play like them....so i am what i am....simple songs....maybe if you listen you can tell me what i sound like!!....soul, pop, lite rock?....lately i've been infatuated with jeff buckley....he died a few years ago but he was a great songwriter and musician....check out "forget her", "everybody here wants you" and "grace"....i'd love to emulate him....What equipment do you use?
kurzweil k2000 keyboard/roland vs880 digital recorder/alesis dm5 drum module played through d10 kat drum pads/carvin guitar and bass....kramer focus strat guitar/seagull acoustic electric guitar/johnson j-station guitar amp emulator/mackie1202 mixer....now mbox with pro tools....yamaha ns 10m studios and a samson servo 150Anything else?
if you have any comments about my songs good or bad i will gladly listen....i hope if you're giving me a "bad" comment that you can make it constructive and maybe tell me where i can improve....if you like it then please tell me why....i'm always interested to know how my music affects people....thanxContact
