Band/artist history
Liverpool's Charm Offensive is fronted by Bolton-born Paul Crawford. Singer, songwriter, guitarist, reader of books and cyclist. Having come up with a digital eight track full of marvels he was eager to scream his hard-won songs from the stage, so was soon joined by his friends Geoff Skelhorn on drums and Kevin Core on bass. Within a matter of months the excitement was mounting, but one link was missing. Marc Jones, comrade of Kev, was ushered in on keyboards and within a month the band made their debut at Liverpool's Cavern Club, the famous birthplace of Rory Storm and the Hurricanes. Songs performed by the band include: Difference Engine, As Quiet as Kept, Come Away, Black and Blue, The Ancient Art of Compromise and God Help Us. Paul's awesome voice would see him equally at home in any number of genres, the music swinging from sweet soulful sounds to ear-splitting nastiness. Charm Offensive avoid the usual strum and clang, the parts are intricate where they need to be and brutal when they have to be.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Since our debut at the Cavern around 18 months ago, we have since played Barfly Liverpool, Zanzibar, The Brook Cafe, Heaven n Hell and Hannahs Bar. Over bank holiday weekend Aug 05 we played to our biggest crowd (around 2000) at the HUB festival, held at Liverpool's Pier Head.
Your musical influences
The band is variously influenced by (but does not rip off) Brian Eno, Elvis Costello, Jeff Buckley, Led Zeppelin, Strange Cargo, Public Enemy, Radiohead, Keith Moon, UNKLE, Art Blakey, Portishead, Herbaliser and Mos Def.
