Glenn DeLaune is a multi-instrumentalist / singer-songwriter. He comes from a musical family and was taught to play guitar and sing at the age of five by his grandfather Lester J. Lalande. He quickly learned to perform and by the time he was in first grade he was up in front of his classmates singing and playing songs like "Sweet Georgia Brown" and "Camp Town Races." Growing up in South Louisiana, Glenn was exposed to many different kinds of music. He played the trumpet throughout his Jr. years and also started a band in tenth grade with a few friends. By the time he graduated in 1979 he started to immerse himself in jazz recordings from Jean Luc Ponty, Earl Klugh, Jeff Beck, Larry Carlton, Bill Bruford and others. He also played professionally in various club bands in the area. Not too long after that he went on the road playing everything from rock & country to cajun and blues music styles.
During the 1980s and early to mid-nineties Glenn fronted the rock band GANGSTER. This band gained notoriety in the southern region of the U.S. Their first CD entitled "Rock and Roll Hit Men" did very well in the southern regional market. They opened for many nationally known acts such as FOREIGNER, 38 SPECIAL, DAVID LEE ROTH, KANSAS, ZEBRA and others. After the untimely death of one of the members (Pat Bearb) they disbanded. The remaining three members reformed in late 1998 to record a tribute CD to their friend. The CD is entitled "I'll See You Again".
Glenn was then getting into contemporary Christian music. He built a studio combining analog and digital recording gear and started writing the songs for a new Christian CD. Out of the eleven tracks on the disc he wrote ten of them, arranged all of them and even played all of the instruments and did the vocals himself. The CD, entitled "Calling All Hearts", was finally completed at the end of 1998 and was released on the Divine Records label. Glenn also started a concert series for schools called the "Calling All Hearts Youth Concert Series". The series features Glenn playing music from his CD and candid conversation about his experiences and what music has meant in his life. His first Christian CD was so successful that he recorded another. This project entitled "Your Love Has Lifted Me" was released on December 28, 1999 on the Divine Recordings label. So where does the jazz come in? Well, it just seemed like a natural progression to go back to the music that was drilled into his head in his early years. Glenn's jazz recordings feature guitar melodies woven into and around beautiful chord structures. The new CD entitled "Shades Of Smooth" can be purchased from MP3.com for only $8.00 plus shipping. Glenn enjoys using computers to aid in his song writing and recording and he is affiliated with BMI as a writer and a publisher with an extensive song catalogue (over 150 songs catalogued).
Currentley, Glenn is promoting a Christmas CD entitled "Down Home Christmas". This CD is filled with original tunes plus some classics. It would be a great addition to any Christmas CD collection. Glenn is also very involved with his church. He is the full-time Choir Director and you can hear him every Saturday at 5pm Mass and Sunday's at 11am Mass.
Band/artist history
I am a singer/songwriter/instrumentalist. I started singing and playing guitar at the age of five, learning all that my grandfather, Lester J. Lalonde, would teach me. I played trumpet in band starting at the fifth grade and all through high school. After graduating from high school I went on the road palying all different types of music from country, rock, cajun, alternative. In 1998 I recorded and released a contemporary Christian CD and at the end of 1999 I recorded and released a second CD. Also contemporary Christian. I love all styles of music but I am most proud of my new Smooth Jazz CD entitled "Shades Of Smooth". It features my guitar melodies played over nice grooves. I'm also working on a Christmas CD.
